Trijicon RMR HD 1 MOA Multi-Reticle System RMHD1-C-3200001, forward-facing sensor top-load battery NV compatible circle-dot reticle RMR footprint Trijicon — Optics & Sights

TRIJICON RMR HD — 1 MOA MULTI-RETICLE SYSTEM

1 MOA Multi-Reticle Forward-Facing Sensor Top-Load Battery Night Vision Compatible 66-ft Waterproof RMR Footprint Made in USA
Factory Testing Notice: All Trijicon optics are individually tested at the factory and may show minor signs of use. This is a standard part of Trijicon’s quality control process and does not affect function, performance, or warranty coverage.

The Trijicon RMR HD is the next-generation evolution of the RMR platform — built on the same proven footprint and fundamental toughness, with a set of engineering changes that address every practical shortcoming of the Type 2. The HD brings a forward-facing light sensor that reads ambient light from the direction of the target rather than overhead, producing more accurate automatic brightness in real-world use. The Multi-Reticle System gives the shooter a choice of two reticle configurations — a simple 1 MOA dot, or a circle-dot — in a single optic. The battery tray loads from the top, allowing a CR2032 swap without removing the optic or re-zeroing. The window is expanded relative to the Type 2, the buttons are larger and more tactile, and the housing has been engineered to divert impact force away from the lens during drops. Waterproof rating is 66 feet, dramatically deeper than the standard RMR. Night vision compatibility covers all three generations with three dedicated NV settings. The same RMR mounting footprint means it seats on any existing RMR-cut slide, rail, or mount. At $774.00, the RMR HD is the premium configuration of the RMR family — every specification represents a specific improvement over the Type 2.

What Makes the RMR HD Different

Forward-Facing Light Sensor

The standard RMR’s ambient light sensor reads from the top of the optic — it measures light falling on the housing, which may not represent what the shooter is actually looking at. The RMR HD moves the sensor to the front of the optic, facing the target. In environments with directional lighting — indoor ranges with overhead fluorescent lights, shaded outdoor environments, or transitional lighting conditions — the forward-facing sensor reads the actual ambient light in the shooter’s field of view and adjusts dot brightness accordingly. The result is a more accurate automatic brightness response that follows the shooting environment rather than the overhead light.

Multi-Reticle System

The MRS gives the shooter access to two reticle configurations in a single optic. The 1 MOA dot is the precision option: a small, clean aiming point that minimizes target obscuration at distance. The circle-dot adds a large surrounding circle that provides a fast outer reference for close-range target acquisition while retaining the 1 MOA center dot for precise aiming when needed. Switching between reticles is handled via the optic’s button controls — no tools required and no need to re-zero, as both reticle configurations share the same zero point.

Top-Loading Battery

Like the SRO, the RMR HD loads the CR2032 from the top of the optic. The battery slides out from a tray without disturbing the optic’s mount or zero. For the standard RMR Type 2, battery replacement requires removing the optic from the slide and re-zeroing after reinstallation. The top-loading design removes that friction entirely — a meaningful operational advantage for any shooter who wants to maintain battery discipline without accepting a re-zero each time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why might this optic show signs of use if it is listed as new?

Trijicon individually tests every optic at the factory before it ships — this is part of their standard quality control process. The testing process may leave minor cosmetic marks from test fixtures or light handling. These marks do not affect function, zero retention, brightness performance, or warranty coverage. The optic arrives ready to use and fully covered by Trijicon’s limited lifetime warranty.

How does the Multi-Reticle System work and do both reticles share the same zero?

The Multi-Reticle System (MRS) lets the user switch between a simple 1 MOA red dot and a circle-dot reticle using the optic’s brightness buttons — no tools, no disassembly. Both reticle configurations are projected from the same LED system and share the same zero. Switching reticles does not require re-zeroing the optic. The 1 MOA dot is well-suited for precision work at distance. The circle-dot reticle adds a large outer circle that serves as a fast close-range index point, with the 1 MOA dot retained in the center for precise aiming when needed. The result is an optic that covers both close-range speed and precision distance work without compromise, selectable in the field as the situation demands.

What is the advantage of the forward-facing light sensor over the standard RMR sensor?

The standard RMR reads ambient light from a sensor mounted on top of the optic housing. This measures light falling on the housing itself, which in many real-world lighting conditions does not match the light level in the shooter’s field of view. For example, in an indoor range with overhead lights, the top sensor reads bright overhead lighting and may set the dot brighter than necessary for the actual shooting environment. In shaded outdoor conditions, overhead light may be blocked while the target remains clearly lit. The RMR HD’s forward-facing sensor reads ambient light from the direction the shooter is aiming — directly in front of the optic, toward the target. This produces an automatic brightness setting that more accurately reflects the light conditions where the shooter is actually looking, resulting in a more consistently appropriate dot intensity across varied environments.

Is the RMR HD night vision compatible with all generations of night vision?

Yes. The RMR HD includes three dedicated night vision brightness settings designed to work with Generation 1, Generation 2, and Generation 3 night vision devices. This is a significant expansion over the standard RMR Type 2, which is not certified for night vision use. The three NV settings produce specific low-output illumination levels calibrated to avoid blooming on NV sensor technology. If NV compatibility is a requirement for your application, the RMR HD is the appropriate choice within the RMR family.

Does the RMR HD fit existing RMR mounts and holsters?

The RMR HD uses the same mounting footprint as the RMR Type 1 and Type 2. It will seat directly on any RMR-cut slide or mount without modification. Holster compatibility is generally very good since the RMR HD body profile is similar to the standard RMR — unlike the SRO, which has a wider body. Most holsters designed for the RMR will also fit the RMR HD, but confirm with the holster manufacturer before ordering if you are running a tight-fit retention holster. Note that the RMR HD requires the AC30007 Battery Cap Tool for proper battery access — the standard RMR battery cap tool is not compatible.

About Trijicon

Trijicon is an American optics manufacturer headquartered in Wixom, Michigan. Founded in 1981, Trijicon built their reputation on self-luminous tritium iron sights and the ACOG (Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight), which became the standard-issue optic for U.S. military infantry forces. The RMR, introduced in 2009, established the benchmark for micro red dot pistol optics. The RMR HD represents the current evolution of that platform, incorporating engineering advances developed through over a decade of duty and operational use feedback. Trijicon products are used by U.S. military special operations units, federal law enforcement agencies, and professional competitive shooters worldwide. All Trijicon optics are covered by a limited lifetime warranty and manufactured in the United States.
