Both lines share the same bore: six-groove, land-and-groove button rifling, not polygonal, so they run jacketed and cast lead bullets. 416-R stainless gets an extra heat-treating step because, as bar stock, it isn’t hard enough for a pistol barrel; 4150 CMV is.
Threaded Barrels, Comps, and Suppressors
Every threaded Faxon M&P® barrel is cut 1/2x28 and ships with a thread protector. Faxon EXOS® compensators are built for each slide: EXOS-514 for M&P®, EXOS-524 for Shield / Shield Plus. Running a suppressor usually calls for suppressor-height sights. Threaded barrels cannot be shipped to California.
How Faxon Pistol Barrels Are Made
- Bar stock gun-drilled and reamed as a long blank
- Button rifled 1:10 with six grooves
- Bore and rifling air gauged
- Stress relieved in-house after rifling, just like Faxon rifle barrels
- Blank cut to length and qualify-turned true to the bore
- Hood, lugs, profile, SAAMI 9mm chamber, and target crown turned and milled; threaded barrels cut 1/2x28
- 416-R Match Series barrels heat treated to pistol-barrel hardness
- Salt-bath QPQ nitride or PVD finish
- Every barrel checked for burrs under 10x magnification and its hood run through a go/thru gauge
- Laser-marked and final inspected
M&P® Barrel FAQs
Do Faxon Shield barrels fit California-compliant Shields?
Not drop-in. Shield barrels are not drop-in compatible with Shield pistols that have a Loaded Chamber Indicator lever installed, such as California-compliant models.
Are Faxon pistol barrels drop-in?
Yes. They are direct replacements for the factory barrel in factory-spec slides, with no gunsmithing. Some aftermarket slides may need minor fitting; check each product page for compatibility notes.
Can I shoot cast lead?
Yes. Six-groove button rifling is land-and-groove rifling, not polygonal, so Faxon pistol barrels run jacketed and cast lead bullets.
What is the difference between Duty Series and Match Series?
Duty Series barrels are 4150 CMV in an OEM-style profile with salt-bath nitride inside and out. Match Series barrels are 416-R stainless, heat treated for pistol-barrel hardness, and come in fluted profiles with nitride or PVD finishes.
Do threaded barrels include a thread protector?
Yes. Every threaded Faxon pistol barrel is cut 1/2x28 and ships with a thread protector. Threaded barrels cannot be shipped to California.
Do I need an FFL?
No. Pistol barrels ship directly to you.
