FAXON MATCH SERIES FLUTED THREADED BARREL FOR M&P® SHIELD/SHIELD PLUS 9MM
FaxonDescription
Pistol Barrels › For M&P® › For M&P® Shield | Works with: EXOS-524 for Shield/Shield Plus
Fit and Compatibility
This barrel is a direct replacement for the factory barrel in M&P® Shield and Shield Plus (3.1″) slides. It is machined to tight tolerances for consistent lockup, and it drops into factory-spec slides with no gunsmithing. On some aftermarket slides, minor fitting may be needed.
Compatibility: Faxon M&P® Shield barrels are not drop-in compatible with Shield pistols that have a Loaded Chamber Indicator lever installed (such as the California-compliant variation). If your pistol has the LCI lever, or you are unsure, contact customerservice@faxonfirearms.com.
Slim slide: you may need to remove the O-ring from the barrel before seating it in the slide. That is normal for this platform and does not affect function.
Shipping: threaded barrels cannot be shipped to California.
How It’s Made
Every Faxon pistol barrel starts as a long 416-R stainless barrel blank that Faxon rifles in-house before it is ever cut into pistol barrels. That way the whole blank gets the same rifling, inspection, and stress relief, and every barrel cut from it starts from a qualified bore.
- Drill and ream: 416-R stainless bar gun-drilled and reamed as a long blank
- Button rifle: Button rifled 1:10, six grooves
- Air gauge: Bore and rifling air gauged
- Stress relieve: Stress relieved in-house after rifling, just like Faxon rifle barrels
- Cut and qualify: Blank cut to length and qualify-turned true to the bore
- Turn and mill: Hood, lugs, and Straight Fluted profile turned and milled; 9mm SAAMI chamber and target crown cut; muzzle threaded 1/2x28
- Heat treat: 416-R heat treated to pistol-barrel hardness; 416-R isn’t hard enough for a pistol barrel as bar stock, while 4150 is
- Finish: Salt-bath QPQ nitrided inside and out
- Mark and inspect: Laser-marked and final inspected
Six-groove button rifling is land-and-groove rifling, not polygonal, so it runs jacketed and cast lead bullets. Salt-bath QPQ nitride is a diffusion treatment, not a plating: it hardens the bore and exterior and adds corrosion resistance and lubricity while adding virtually nothing to the dimensions.
How We Inspect It
Faxon pistol barrels are built to a written control plan, and each run is logged on inspection sheets. Here is what this barrel goes through before it ships.
| Burr check | Every barrel inspected for burrs under 10x magnification |
| Hood fit | Every hood run through a go/thru gauge |
| CMM | First and last barrel of every run checked on the CMM |
| First article | Full CMM first-article inspection after any machine maintenance, tool change, or part change, and at least every 30 days |
| Certifications | Material certs checked at receiving; stress relief certified by lot |
Straight Fluted Profile
Straight flutes trim weight and add surface area for cooling while keeping the barrel compact and clean-looking.

Match Series M&P® Shield Barrel FAQs
Is this barrel drop-in?
Yes. It is a direct replacement for the factory barrel in M&P® Shield and Shield Plus (3.1″) slides with no gunsmithing on factory-spec slides. Some aftermarket slides may need minor fitting.
How is it rifled?
Button rifled, 1:10 twist, with six grooves. Faxon rifles a long blank in-house, air gauges the bore and rifling, and stress relieves it before cutting it into pistol barrels.
Can I shoot cast lead bullets?
Yes. Six-groove button rifling is land-and-groove rifling, not polygonal, so it runs both jacketed and cast lead bullets.
What is the difference between Duty Series and Match Series pistol barrels?
Duty Series barrels are 4150 CMV in an OEM-style profile with salt-bath nitride inside and out. Match Series barrels are 416-R stainless, heat treated for pistol-barrel hardness, and come in fluted profiles and PVD color options.
What finish is it?
Salt-bath QPQ nitride, inside and out.
Can I run a suppressor or compensator?
Yes. The muzzle is threaded 1/2x28, the common 9mm thread, and a thread protector is included. You will likely need suppressor-height sights to see over a suppressor.
Can it ship to California?
No. Threaded barrels cannot be shipped to California.
Where is it made?
In Greater Cincinnati, Ohio. Pistol barrels ship without an FFL.

Consistent Quality
The threaded Faxon barrel got my single stack 9mm SW Shield transformed my pistol by not only making it more accurate but softer shooting , too. The extra weight of the longer barrel acts to retard lock time spreading the recoil impulse over over enough time to make shooting more comfortable. The Sheild is a great carry but does kick more than similar guns. Zero reliability problems. This the second barrel I bought for my spare Shield so the consistency is there. Might have to try a Faxon barreled action for rifle.

Changed my SW Shield Completely
Installing the Faxon threaded Match barrel completely changed my Shield (single stack) 2.0. It had been relegated to the safe due to higher recoil making extended practice sessions debilitating I tried the Faxon on a whim. Might as well buy the extended threaded for the cool factor, I thought, maybe even add some velocity. Frankly I wasn’t prepared for this level of improvement. It fit securely into place and fed every type of rounds I could lay my hands on. I didn’t test using a controlled press. I scrambled the gun up from the bench and hammered the trigger at 7 yards. Many 2 into 1 hits were the result. I’m pretty sure the longer slightly heavier barrel slowed the locking/ unlocking action of the barrel just enough to spread out the recoil impulse. I’m going to buy more Faxon barrels.

Much Improvement
No problems with any ammo. But for accurate, it is a big surprise to me. I can shoot 12 oz cans at 20 yards easy. My shield is 100 percent reliable with Faxon threaded Barrel. I bought the Barrel to make my Shield a Sub Compact 3/1/2 barrel for better ballistic. The Faxon Threaded Barrel is Great Upgrade.

Improvement over factory barrel
This barrel was purchased to be able to run the Faxon Exos compensator and my M&P Shield Plus. The completed gun includes this barrel, the Exos comp, a set of Night Fission co-witness sights, a Holosun 507K green dot optic, a Recover Tactical SHR9 picatinny rail, and a Streamlight TLR-7 Sub. With the ability to run a 10, 13, 15 round magazine, this setup has become my go to carry.

As always my barrel arrived in a timely manner, the fit and finish is great really gives my shield a great look. I’m ordering the exos compensator for m&p shield as well. I can’t wait to see the finished product. As an Ohio resident I’m proud to have a company of this quality in the state and will continue to order their products not only for myself but my friends and family.

Amazing
I prefer this over original barrel its really nice and love the thread protector. Tight tolerances. Great index for racking slide bc the sheild slide has little to no front serrations. Got 2 more after receiving my first. 1 for my other sheild and 1 for the fullsize MP. Great product! Thank you Faxxon family
