9mm Luger, By the Numbers
Georg Luger designed the 9x19 for the Luger pistol in 1901 and the German Navy adopted it in 1904; it is now the NATO standard pistol cartridge and the most widely used centerfire handgun cartridge in the world, loaded to a SAAMI maximum of 35,000 psi (38,500 for +P). In a carbine it gains speed, not character: a pistol cartridge burns its powder in the first few inches, so a 16″ barrel adds roughly 100 to 200 fps to a supersonic load and almost nothing to a subsonic one.
That is the point of the PCC. Ammunition costs a fraction of any rifle cartridge, recoil is negligible, and a 147 gr load that leaves a 4″ pistol at 1,000 fps is still subsonic from 16″, which makes a suppressed 9mm carbine the quietest centerfire gun most shooters will ever fire. Federal, Speer, and Sig publish their 9mm figures from 4″ pistol barrels; from an 8.5″ or longer AR barrel, add 100 to 150 fps to the 115 and 124 gr supersonics and treat the 147 gr subsonic as unchanged.
Faxon builds the 9mm Duty Series barrels on the Light Tapered contour for blowback: a 1.000″ receiver journal with a .125″ indexing pin, a .980″ collar, a short taper, and a straight body to the 1/2x28 muzzle. 1:10 twist stabilizes everything from 115 gr FMJ through 147 and 165 gr subsonics. The feed ramp is cut into the barrel for Glock®-pattern magazines, the chamber is cut to a 9mm GO gauge, and there is no gas port, so any free-float handguard fits.

What You Need to Build It
A 9mm blowback bolt carrier group (a 5.56 carrier will not work), a Glock®-pattern 9mm PCC lower with its magazines, a mil-spec AR-15 upper, and a heavy buffer; the barrel seats in the upper on its 1.000″ journal and indexing pin the way a barrel extension does, with a standard barrel nut. No gas block or gas tube. Any free-float handguard fits; the muzzle is 1/2x28 with a 9mm bore, so 9mm devices and 9mm-rated suppressors thread on directly.
What Every Duty Series Barrel Shares

Duty Series 9mm FAQs
Do these barrels need a gas block or gas tube?
No. A 9mm AR is blowback: the cartridge pushes the bolt straight back against the carrier mass and buffer spring, and the barrel has no gas port, journal, or block. What it needs instead is a 9mm blowback bolt carrier group and a buffer heavy enough for the load.
What lower and magazines do they need?
A Glock®-pattern 9mm PCC lower and Glock 9mm magazines (17, 19, 33-round, or PCC-pattern). The feed ramp is machined into the barrel for that magazine pattern. Colt-pattern (stick-magazine) lowers use a different ramp geometry and are not what these barrels are cut for.
Which length?
8.5″ is the smallest and, with subsonic 147 gr ammunition and a can, the quietest. 10.5″ is the standard PCC pistol length with room for a rail and a light. 16″ is a carbine with no paperwork and Faxon’s most-reviewed PCC barrel. Velocity differences between them are small because a pistol cartridge burns out early.
Will 1:10 twist stabilize 147 gr subsonics?
Yes. 1:10 is the standard 9mm carbine twist and stabilizes 115 through 165 gr bullets, subsonic and supersonic.
