FAXON MATCH SERIES FLAME FLUTED® BARREL FOR M&P® 2.0 COMPACT 9MM
FaxonDescription
Pistol Barrels › For M&P® › For M&P® 2.0 Compact
Fit and Compatibility
This barrel is a direct replacement for the factory barrel in M&P® 2.0 Compact slides. It is machined to tight tolerances for consistent lockup, and it drops into factory-spec slides with no gunsmithing. On some aftermarket slides, minor fitting may be needed.
How It’s Made
Every Faxon pistol barrel starts as a long 416-R stainless barrel blank that Faxon rifles in-house before it is ever cut into pistol barrels. That way the whole blank gets the same rifling, inspection, and stress relief, and every barrel cut from it starts from a qualified bore.
- Drill and ream: 416-R stainless bar gun-drilled and reamed as a long blank
- Button rifle: Button rifled 1:10, six grooves
- Air gauge: Bore and rifling air gauged
- Stress relieve: Stress relieved in-house after rifling, just like Faxon rifle barrels
- Cut and qualify: Blank cut to length and qualify-turned true to the bore
- Turn and mill: Hood, lugs, and Flame Fluted® profile turned and milled; 9mm SAAMI chamber and target crown cut
- Heat treat: 416-R heat treated to pistol-barrel hardness; 416-R isn’t hard enough for a pistol barrel as bar stock, while 4150 is
- Finish: Salt-bath QPQ nitrided inside and out
- Mark and inspect: Laser-marked and final inspected
Six-groove button rifling is land-and-groove rifling, not polygonal, so it runs jacketed and cast lead bullets. Salt-bath QPQ nitride is a diffusion treatment, not a plating: it hardens the bore and exterior and adds corrosion resistance and lubricity while adding virtually nothing to the dimensions.
How We Inspect It
Faxon pistol barrels are built to a written control plan, and each run is logged on inspection sheets. Here is what this barrel goes through before it ships.
| Burr check | Every barrel inspected for burrs under 10x magnification |
| Hood fit | Every hood run through a go/thru gauge |
| CMM | First and last barrel of every run checked on the CMM |
| First article | Full CMM first-article inspection after any machine maintenance, tool change, or part change, and at least every 30 days |
| Certifications | Material certs checked at receiving; stress relief certified by lot |
Flame Fluted® Profile
Faxon’s patented Flame Fluted® design cuts weight and adds surface area for faster cooling, with the distinctive Faxon look.

Match Series M&P® 2.0 Compact Barrel FAQs
Is this barrel drop-in?
Yes. It is a direct replacement for the factory barrel in M&P® 2.0 Compact slides with no gunsmithing on factory-spec slides. Some aftermarket slides may need minor fitting.
How is it rifled?
Button rifled, 1:10 twist, with six grooves. Faxon rifles a long blank in-house, air gauges the bore and rifling, and stress relieves it before cutting it into pistol barrels.
Can I shoot cast lead bullets?
Yes. Six-groove button rifling is land-and-groove rifling, not polygonal, so it runs both jacketed and cast lead bullets.
What is the difference between Duty Series and Match Series pistol barrels?
Duty Series barrels are 4150 CMV in an OEM-style profile with salt-bath nitride inside and out. Match Series barrels are 416-R stainless, heat treated for pistol-barrel hardness, and come in fluted profiles and PVD color options.
What finish is it?
Salt-bath QPQ nitride, inside and out.
Where is it made?
In Greater Cincinnati, Ohio. Pistol barrels ship without an FFL.

M&p 2.0 Barrel
Even though it says this barrel is not a drop in fit for the newer 2.0 optics ready models, I decided to find out for myself. Story short, it dropped right in, just buy it.

Drop In Barrel
Wanted to upgrade my factory barrel for a while. Some reviews said did not fit totally as a drop in barrel. But mine dropped in just fine. Could tell the barrel fit tighter inside the slide some. It does appear to help with more accurate grouped shot placement.

Awesome
Great barrel. Accurate, and good lockup. Barrels fit/finish is phenominal.

M&P 2.0 Compact barrel is almost a home a run
So this one is a bit difficult to grade. First off it fits my M&P 2.0 optic cut made in 2023, which they don't guarantee it will ( no fault of Faxons, S&W changed tolerances). Next it does shoot better then the factory barrel it replaced, so that's another positive. It also as another reviewer commented, did somehow change the feel of the gun for the better. I'm not sure if the tighter tolerances are making everything align better or something but the gun does somehow feel a little better when shooting. Now for the ding. My sample of one, ( maybe they're not all this way) was not machined nearly as clean as I was expecting an aftermarket premium barrel to be. There are some visible milling marks in different spots on the barrel, and there are defined ( I'd call them chatter marks) inside the barrel in the lands of the rifling perpendicular to the rifling. I almost didn't shoot the barrel when I saw these but I went ahead and tried it and it ran great. Also after about 200rds and a good cleaning I'd say 50% of the mark in the lands appeared to smooth out some. In closing it ran well enough that I'm keeping it in the gun. And for the price I paid with it on sale it's acceptable.
