MAGPUL MOE SL CARBINE STOCK MIL-SPEC BLACK — MAG347BLK
The Magpul MOE SL Slim Line Carbine Stock Mil-Spec Black (MAG347BLK) is Magpul's body-armor-optimized collapsible stock — a drop-in mil-spec replacement engineered specifically for the ergonomic demands of shooting in kit. Where standard collapsible stocks were designed for a shooter in a T-shirt, the MOE SL addresses the realities of plates, armor carriers, and modular chest rigs. Every detail has been considered for that context: the rollover toe clears plate carrier geometry at the shoulder pocket, the dual-side release latches work equally well from either hand even in gloves, and the angled rubber buttpad grips the shoulder regardless of surface material.
The SL in MOE SL stands for Slim Line. The stock has a slimmer cross-section than the standard MOE stock, which reduces snag points and keeps the overall package tighter when the rifle is slung or transitioned. The internal anti-rattle system holds the stock firmly against the buffer tube at any position without the rattle and slop common in standard mil-spec stocks. It achieves this through an internal spring-loaded mechanism rather than an external friction lock, keeping the slim exterior profile intact.
Sling attachment is handled by two integrated options: an integral push-button QD swivel socket and a fixed 1.25" sling loop, both built into the stock body. This covers QD sling systems and traditional fixed-loop configurations without any additional hardware. The stock also maintains compatibility with Magpul's ASAP and ASAP QD receiver-mount sling attachment points if your build uses those. Length of pull adjusts across a 3.3" range, from approximately 10.8" collapsed to 14.1" extended, and is built in the USA from durable polymer.
✔ Best for: Shooters who run body armor or chest rigs, duty and tactical AR-15/AR-308 builds, those who want a snag-free slim profile with dual-side latch access and both QD and fixed sling options
✘ Not for: Commercial-spec buffer tubes; fixed-stock builds; shooters needing buttstock storage — the MOE SL has no storage capability
? Note: Fits mil-spec carbine receiver extensions only. Verify your buffer tube is mil-spec diameter before ordering. No FFL transfer required for stocks.
Key Features
- Rollover Toe — Body Armor Optimized — The lower rear corner of the stock is rolled over rather than squared, which clears the geometry of plate carrier shoulder pockets and allows the buttstock to seat properly in the shoulder even with plates and soft armor in the way. For shooters who run armor regularly, this is a meaningful ergonomic feature that standard stock profiles do not address.
- Dual-Side Release Latches — Length-of-pull release levers on both sides of the stock allow fast, positive adjustments with either hand. Useful with gloves, in non-standard shooting positions, and for left-handed shooters who find single-side latches awkward to reach without shifting grip.
- Internal Anti-Rattle System — A spring-loaded internal mechanism holds the stock firmly against the buffer tube at any of its adjustment positions, eliminating the wobble and rattle inherent in standard mil-spec collapsible stocks. The mechanism is contained entirely within the stock body, preserving the slim exterior profile.
- Slim Line Profile — The MOE SL is dimensionally narrower than the standard MOE stock, reducing snag points when the rifle is transitioned, slung, or moved through tight spaces with gear. The slim profile also reduces bulk when the rifle is compressed against the body in close-quarters environments.
- Integral QD Socket and Fixed Sling Loop — An integrated push-button QD sling swivel socket handles modern QD sling systems; a fixed 1.25" sling loop handles traditional clip or loop-style slings. Both are built into the stock body with no external adapters required. Compatible with Magpul ASAP and ASAP QD receiver-mount attachment points.
- Angled Rubber Buttpad and Sloping Cheek Weld — The angled buttpad grips the shoulder through clothing, body armor, and modular gear surfaces. The sloping cheek weld guides your face into a consistent position for repeatable sight alignment on every stock presentation.
- Chrome Silicon Lock Spring — The latch uses a chrome silicon spring rather than standard carbon steel for improved fatigue resistance and consistent latch feel across a longer service life.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does "Slim Line" mean and how does it differ from a standard MOE stock?
The MOE SL is dimensionally narrower than the standard MOE Carbine Stock. Magpul redesigned the cross-section to reduce bulk and snag points without removing the functional improvements that set the MOE apart from a mil-spec M4 stock. The slim profile makes the rifle easier to handle in tight spaces, against barriers, and when the rifle is slung across the body. The SL also added dual-side release latches, a rollover toe, and the internal anti-rattle system — making it a comprehensive upgrade over the standard MOE, not just a lighter version.
What is the rollover toe and why does it matter for body armor use?
The toe is the lower rear corner of the buttstock — the part that contacts the shoulder pocket when the stock is mounted. On a standard square-toe stock, the corner digs into the shoulder pocket area of a plate carrier, preventing the stock from fully seating and creating an inconsistent cheek weld. The MOE SL's rollover toe is curved and angled to clear plate carrier geometry, allowing the stock to seat properly in the shoulder pocket even when wearing soft armor, plates, or a chest rig. It is a purpose-built feature for shooters who run armor and is one of the reasons the MOE SL is widely specified for duty builds.
What is the advantage of dual-side release latches?
Standard mil-spec and most aftermarket collapsible stocks have a single release latch on the bottom of the stock. The MOE SL has release levers on both sides, so you can actuate it with your thumb or finger from either side of the rifle without shifting your grip. This is useful when wearing gloves, when your hands are in a non-standard position, and for left-handed shooters who would otherwise need to reach awkwardly across the stock to hit a single right-side latch.
How does the anti-rattle system compare to the CTR's friction lock?
Both systems eliminate the wobble and rattle of standard collapsible stocks, but they work differently. The CTR's friction lock is a supplemental clamping mechanism that actively tightens against the buffer tube and is released by pressing the latch button. The MOE SL's internal anti-rattle system uses an internal spring-loaded mechanism that holds the stock body against the tube more passively. Both are effective; the CTR's friction lock provides a slightly firmer locked feel at the cost of a more deliberate release. The MOE SL's approach is seamless and adds no operational steps to adjustment. Which you prefer is largely personal preference.
What sling options does the MOE SL support?
The MOE SL integrates both a push-button QD sling swivel socket and a fixed 1.25" sling loop directly into the stock body. The QD socket handles modern quick-detach sling systems from Blue Force Gear, Magpul, Vickers, and others. The fixed loop handles traditional clip-on and loop-style slings. Neither requires external adapters. The stock is also compatible with Magpul's ASAP and ASAP QD receiver-mount sling attachment points if you use those on your lower receiver.
Will this fit my AR-308 or AR-10?
Yes, provided your AR-308 uses a mil-spec carbine receiver extension. Verify your buffer tube diameter before ordering — mil-spec tubes measure approximately 1.148" outer diameter while commercial tubes are approximately 1.168". If your .308 lower uses a larger or proprietary buffer tube, the MOE SL will not fit correctly.
Should I choose the MOE SL or the CTR?
Both are strong choices at the same price point, and both are made in the USA by Magpul. The MOE SL is the better fit if you run body armor (rollover toe), want dual-side latch access, or need both QD and fixed sling options in one stock. The CTR is the better fit if you specifically want the friction lock system for the firmest possible locked feel, and if ambidextrous QD sockets on both sides are more important than a fixed sling loop. Both address stock wobble effectively; the CTR's approach is more mechanical and deliberate, while the MOE SL's is more seamless.
