Folding Rear Sight • M1913 Picatinny • Case-Hardened Steel Melonite • Dual Aperture
MAGPUL MBUS PRO REAR SIGHT — MAG276BLK
The Magpul MBUS Pro Rear Sight is a compact, all-steel folding backup iron sight built for Picatinny-railed rifles. Like the rest of the MBUS Pro line, it is constructed from case-hardened steel and protected by a Melonite finish — a corrosion-resistant surface treatment that penetrates and hardens the steel itself rather than sitting on top of it. The result is a sight that holds up in demanding field conditions without adding unnecessary bulk to the rifle.
At the core of the MBUS Pro Rear Sight are its dual apertures and published MOA-per-click windage data. Two apertures are built into the sight body: a small 0.07" aperture for precise target acquisition at distance and a large 0.19" aperture for faster acquisition in low light or close-range situations. Windage adjustment is tool-less and delivers ~0.5 MOA per click at a 14.5" sight radius and ~0.4 MOA per click at a 20" sight radius — letting you calculate exact corrections at the range rather than counting clicks by feel.
Both the deployed and stowed positions are secured by positive detents that lock the sight firmly in place. When deployed, the sight sits at standard AR sight height with an aperture center 1.41" over the rail, providing co-witness compatibility with most standard-height optic mounts. When folded, it collapses to a ~0.37" stowed profile — one of the lowest stowed heights in the MBUS Pro family — keeping the top rail clear and minimizing snag points when the sight is not in use.
The MBUS Pro Rear Sight is designed to pair with the Magpul MBUS Pro Front Sight (MAG275BLK) for a complete, matched iron sight system. Shooters who need an elevation adjustment wheel for 200–600 meter shooting should look at the MBUS Pro LR Rear Sight (MAG527BLK) instead.
✔ Best for: AR-15 and Picatinny-railed rifle shooters who want a rugged steel rear BUIS with tool-less windage, published MOA-per-click data, and dual apertures for variable conditions. An excellent choice as a primary iron sight or a co-witness backup behind a red dot or holographic sight.
✘ Not for: Buyers who need a complete front-and-rear sight set — this is the rear sight only. Shooters who require a rear elevation wheel for 200–600 meter field adjustments should consider the MBUS Pro LR Rear Sight (MAG527BLK). Rifles without a Picatinny top rail require an adapter.
ℹ Note: Designed to pair with the Magpul MBUS Pro Front Sight (MAG275BLK), sold separately. Co-witness height compatibility with your specific optic and mount should be verified before purchase.
Key Features
- Case-Hardened Steel with Melonite Finish — Case-hardening increases the surface hardness and impact resistance of the steel body. The Melonite finish adds a corrosion-resistant treatment that works at the molecular level, penetrating the steel rather than coating it, delivering long-term durability without the chipping or peeling associated with surface coatings.
- Tool-Less Windage Adjustment with Published MOA Data — Windage adjustment is hand-operable with no tools required. Published MOA-per-click values — ~0.5 MOA at a 14.5" sight radius and ~0.4 MOA at a 20" sight radius — let you calculate precise corrections before touching an adjustment. This eliminates guesswork and speeds up zeroing sessions significantly.
- Dual Apertures for Variable Conditions — Two apertures are built into the sight body. The small 0.07" aperture provides a tight, focused sight picture for precise aiming at distance or in bright conditions. The large 0.19" aperture opens the sight picture for fast acquisition in low light or at close range. Switching between them is immediate and requires no tools.
- 1.41" Aperture Height Over Rail — The aperture center sits 1.41" above the rail when deployed, confirming standard AR sight height co-witness compatibility. This measurement lets you verify compatibility with your specific optic mount height before purchasing.
- ~0.37" Stowed Profile — Lowest in the MBUS Pro Rear Family — At approximately 0.37" when folded, the MBUS Pro Rear Sight has a lower stowed profile than the LR version (0.49"), keeping the top rail clear for optic use and reducing snag points during handling and carry.
- Positive Detents in Both Positions — The sight locks positively upright under recoil and flat when stowed. Both detents resist unintended movement under firing, transport, and field conditions without requiring any tools to operate.
- Standard AR Sight Height When Deployed — Deploys to standard AR sight height for direct compatibility with most front sights at standard height, including the Magpul MBUS Pro Front Sight (MAG275BLK) and gas block integrated front sights.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the MAG276BLK a complete sight set, or just the rear sight?
This is the rear sight only. The MAG276BLK does not include a front sight. For a complete matched system, pair it with the Magpul MBUS Pro Front Sight (MAG275BLK), sold separately.
What is the difference between the MBUS Pro Rear Sight (MAG276BLK) and the MBUS Pro LR Rear Sight (MAG527BLK)?
The key difference is the elevation adjustment capability. The MAG276BLK (standard) offers windage adjustment only — elevation is set at installation and not designed for field changes. The MAG527BLK (LR) adds a calibrated elevation wheel that provides adjustments for 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 meter distances in the field. The LR version also has a slightly larger stowed profile (0.49" vs 0.37") and weighs slightly more (2.0 oz vs 1.80 oz). If you shoot primarily within standard zeroing distances and don't need field elevation adjustment, the MAG276BLK is the lighter, more compact option. If you want genuine long-range elevation adjustment capability from a folding rear sight, choose the MAG527BLK.
How do I calculate windage corrections using the MOA-per-click data?
At a 14.5" sight radius (shorter AR-15 configurations), each windage click moves point of impact approximately 0.5 MOA — about 0.566" at 100 meters, or 1.132" at 200 meters. At a 20" sight radius, each click moves approximately 0.4 MOA (0.410" at 100 meters). To use these numbers: measure how far left or right your point of impact is from zero at your target distance, divide by the per-click value for your sight radius and distance, and apply that many clicks in the correct direction. For example, if you are 2" right at 100 meters using a 14.5" radius, divide 2 by 0.566 for approximately 3.5 clicks left.
What are the two apertures, and when should I use each one?
The MBUS Pro Rear Sight has two apertures built into the sight body. The small 0.07" aperture provides a tight, precise sight picture suited for longer-range shooting and well-lit conditions where fine aiming detail is useful. The large 0.19" aperture opens the sight picture for faster acquisition in low-light conditions, close-range shooting, or any situation where speed is more important than fine precision. Switching between them is quick and tool-free.
Will the MBUS Pro Rear Sight co-witness with my red dot optic?
The MBUS Pro Rear Sight deploys with the aperture center sitting 1.41" above the rail, which corresponds to standard AR sight height. This provides absolute co-witness with most red dot sights mounted on standard-height Picatinny mounts. If your optic is mounted on a lower-third co-witness riser or an elevated mount, verify the mount height against the 1.41" aperture height before purchasing.
What front sight does the MBUS Pro Rear Sight pair with?
Magpul designed the MAG276BLK to pair with the Magpul MBUS Pro Front Sight (MAG275BLK) for a matched system. It will also function with any other front sight at standard AR sight height, including gas block integrated front sights, other manufacturers' folding BUIS front sights, and fixed front sights at standard height. The rear sight pairing is not exclusive to Magpul front sights.
