This is the front sight only. The MAG1518BLK includes a single folding front sight and no rear sight. For a matched system, Magpul designed it to pair with the MBUS Pro Rear Sight, which features a dual-aperture design and is sold separately. If you need both front and rear, make sure to add the matching rear sight to your order.

The hood surrounds the sight post on three sides, blocking stray light from striking the post at angles that cause glare or washout. In bright sunlight or harsh artificial lighting, an exposed post can flare and make it harder to define your aiming point quickly. The hood eliminates most of that interference, producing a cleaner, more consistent sight picture and allowing faster target acquisition. The hood also provides physical protection for the post during hard use.

The sight post rotates to present two selectable widths: 0.06" (standard) and 0.04" (match). To switch, rotate the post to the desired setting — no tools required. The 0.06" post is the better choice for most defensive, duty, and field applications where a slightly larger post is easier to acquire quickly under stress. The 0.04" match post is narrower and allows more precise aiming for longer-range precision shooting or competition use. Both widths are available at any time without carrying additional equipment.

Elevation adjustment is hand-operable — no sight tool is required. To raise your point of impact, rotate the post in the appropriate direction; to lower it, rotate the opposite way. Standard zeroing practice is to make elevation corrections at the front sight and windage corrections at the rear sight. Once zeroed, the adjustment holds its position under normal use and recoil.

Aluminum is lighter and entirely adequate for most BUIS applications. Steel offers higher hardness, greater resistance to deformation under impact, and superior long-term wear resistance — particularly at contact surfaces like the mount interface and post. The QPQ nitride finish on the MBUS Pro further increases surface hardness and corrosion resistance by treating the steel itself, rather than applying a coating on top of it. For shooters who prioritize durability and intend heavy use, a steel sight provides a meaningful step up.

The MBUS Pro deploys to standard AR sight height, which provides absolute co-witness with most red dot sights mounted on standard-height Picatinny mounts (such as a standard flattop riser). If your optic is mounted on a lower-third co-witness riser or an elevated mount, the geometry will differ. The correct co-witness setup depends on your specific optic and mount height combination — verify those specs against standard AR sight height before purchasing if co-witness is a requirement.
