The friction lock is a supplemental clamping mechanism inside the CTR that tightens against the buffer tube after you set your length of pull. Standard collapsible stocks rely only on a spring-loaded latch to hold position, which leaves some play between the stock body and tube — the source of the familiar rattle and wobble on mil-spec stocks. The CTR's friction lock removes that play, making the stock feel solidly locked rather than loosely retained. When you need to adjust, pressing the release lever disengages both the latch and the friction lock simultaneously, allowing smooth repositioning.

The two specs differ in outer diameter and surface finish. Mil-spec buffer tubes have an outer diameter of approximately 1.148" and a slightly textured surface. Commercial tubes have a larger outer diameter of approximately 1.168" and are typically smooth. The easiest check is calipers on the tube OD, or checking the documentation for your lower receiver or buffer tube. Most quality AR-15 and AR-308 builds ship with mil-spec tubes. If you slide the CTR onto a commercial tube it will feel loose and the latch will not fully engage — do not force it.

Both sides. The CTR has dedicated push-button QD sling swivel sockets on the left and right sides of the stock body. This allows you to run your sling from either shoulder without adding external hardware or swapping anything on the stock. Both sockets accept any standard 1.25" push-button QD swivel.

Yes. The rubber buttpad on the CTR is removable and replaceable. Magpul and several aftermarket manufacturers offer replacement pads in different thicknesses and materials for the CTR platform. The stock can also be used without the pad if a slimmer profile is preferred, though the pad is recommended for any application involving body armor or extended shoulder contact.

Six positions on a standard mil-spec carbine receiver extension, providing approximately 1.5" of total length-of-pull adjustment — the same range as all standard M4-pattern collapsible stocks. This accommodates a wide range of shooter builds and body armor configurations.
