XS SIGHTS R3D ORANGE SUPPRESSOR HEIGHT NIGHT SIGHTS FOR GLOCK — RMR COMPATIBLE
The XS Sights R3D Orange Suppressor Height Night Sights (GL-R021P-6N) are built for Glock pistols running red dot optics on factory MOS cuts. The suppressor height profile clears the optic body and co-witnesses with the Trijicon RMR Type 2 and SRO, the Holosun 507c series, and the Vortex Viper, providing a usable iron sight backup when the optic is occluded or fails. Unlike XS Sights' DXT2 "dot the i" lineup, the R3D uses a traditional 3-dot tritium sight picture — front post and rear notch with two rear dots — giving shooters a familiar iron sight reference that transitions naturally from optic to irons under any condition.
The front sight features XS Sights' orange photoluminescent Glow Dot that absorbs ambient light and re-emits it as a visible orange glow in low-light conditions, backed by a tritium insert for constant darkness visibility. The rear is a deliberately dimmer 2-dot tritium blacked-out design: the rear tritium vials are intentionally less bright than the front, and the front tritium also partially charges the Glow Dot, widening the brightness gap between front and rear sights. This forces the shooter's eye to stay on the front sight for proper alignment rather than splitting attention between equally bright front and rear elements. An anti-reflective lens and overhang reduce rear glare further. The rear sight includes a ledge for one-handed slide manipulation.
Front and rear tritium vials at equal brightness. Eye must actively choose to focus on the front. Under stress, attention can split or lock to the rear — causing misalignment.
Rear tritium intentionally less bright than front. Front tritium also charges the Glow Dot, increasing the gap further. Eye is naturally drawn to the brightest element: the front sight. Correct alignment reinforced by light physics.
The anti-reflective rear tritium lens and rear overhang further reduce rear sight glare, keeping the front Glow Dot as the dominant visual element throughout the sight picture.

The R3D is built for Glock pistols with factory MOS optic cuts. The suppressor height profile raises both front and rear sights above the optic body, providing a co-witness iron sight picture alongside or through the red dot. Confirmed compatible optics include the Trijicon RMR Type 2, Trijicon SRO, Holosun 507c series, and Vortex Viper when installed on a factory MOS Glock. If the optic is occluded by debris, fogged, or suffers a battery failure, the R3D irons are immediately available with a traditional 3-dot sight picture requiring no technique adjustment from the red dot.
The rear sight incorporates an anti-reflective tritium lens and an overhang that shades the rear vials from overhead light sources. This reduces the tendency for the rear sight to catch ambient light and appear brighter than intended, preserving the engineered front-sight brightness dominance. In direct sunlight or under bright indoor lighting, unshielded rear tritium capsules can appear washed out or comparatively brighter than at night — the overhang mitigates this effect and keeps the rear consistently subordinate to the front Glow Dot across lighting conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which optics are compatible with the R3D on a factory MOS Glock?
XS Sights confirms the R3D suppressor height sights co-witness with the following optics on factory MOS Glock pistols: the Trijicon RMR Type 2, the Trijicon SRO, the Holosun 507c series, and the Vortex Viper. These are among the most common red dot configurations for duty and carry Glocks, and the R3D's suppressor height profile is specifically designed to clear their bodies while placing the iron sight picture at or near the bottom of the optic window. Verify compatibility with your specific optic and Glock generation against XS Sights' current fitment data before purchase, as mounting configurations can vary between optic versions and MOS generations.
Why is the rear sight intentionally dimmer than the front?
The R3D rear tritium is designed to be less bright than the front sight by using a slightly dimmer tritium vial in the rear. Additionally, the front tritium vial partially charges the front's photoluminescent Glow Dot, making the front sight even brighter relative to the rear. The combined effect is a deliberate brightness gap between front and rear sights. The reason is practical: in a traditional 3-dot system where all vials are equally bright, the shooter's eye can split attention between front and rear, or inadvertently fixate on the rear in a stressed situation. When the front sight is measurably brighter, the eye naturally gravitates toward it — which is exactly where it should be for correct sight alignment. The anti-reflective rear lens and overhang further reduce rear glare under ambient lighting conditions.
How does the R3D differ from the DXT2 Big Dot sights?
The R3D and DXT2 represent two distinct XS Sights design philosophies. The DXT2 uses the "dot the i" sight picture — a single Big Dot front above a V-notch rear, requiring the shooter to track one visual reference. The R3D uses a traditional 3-dot configuration — a front post with dot and a notch rear with two dots — which is the same sight picture found on most factory pistol sights and is familiar to most trained shooters without any adjustment. The R3D is suppressor height and designed for MOS-equipped Glocks running red dot optics; the DXT2 variants are standard height for non-optic configurations. Both use the orange Glow Dot + tritium front sight. The R3D's rear uses a blacked-out dimmer tritium design rather than the DXT2's white outline with tritium center.
What is the Glow Dot and how does it work?
The Glow Dot is XS Sights' proprietary photoluminescent front sight element. It absorbs energy from ambient and UV light during normal conditions and re-emits that stored energy as visible orange light in low-light environments. The Glow Dot is convex rather than flat, increasing surface area for improved light absorption. On the R3D, the front tritium vial also slightly charges the Glow Dot from behind, adding an additional layer of light to the front sight that further brightens it relative to the rear. The Glow Dot works alongside the tritium insert: tritium provides constant always-on glow, while the Glow Dot adds a brighter layer that peaks immediately after ambient light exposure.
Will these fit my holster?
XS Sights notes the R3D suppressor height sights fit standard holster options. Suppressor height sights raise the front and rear above standard profile, which can affect fit in form-fitted or retention holsters designed to the original equipment sight profile. Open-top holsters are generally unaffected. If you use a form-fitted Kydex holster or a holster with a specific sight channel, verify compatibility with your holster manufacturer. For holsters designed to accommodate an optic-mounted MOS Glock, suppressor height sights are typically accommodated as part of the optic-ready holster design.
Can I use the rear sight ledge to rack the slide one-handed?
Yes. The R3D rear sight includes a ledge for one-handed slide manipulation. Hook the rear sight against a belt edge, holster rim, table, or boot heel and push the frame forward to rack the slide when the strong hand is unavailable. This technique is standard in defensive shooting curricula for malfunction clearing under physical compromise. The ledge geometry does not create a snag hazard during a normal holster draw.
About XS Sights
XS Sights (formerly XS Sight Systems) is a Fort Worth, Texas company that has been manufacturing tritium and fiber-optic sight systems for defensive firearms since the mid-1990s. Known for their Big Dot express sight platform, XS Sights also produces traditional 3-dot tritium systems designed for shooters who prefer a conventional sight picture with upgraded low-light performance. The R3D line represents their engineering approach to traditional 3-dot sights: front-sight brightness dominance, photoluminescent Glow Dot technology, and suppressor height profiles for the modern optics-equipped defensive pistol.
