The Standard Dot (0.140 inches) and Big Dot (0.188 inches) are two front sight sizes available in the DXT2 platform. Both use the same Glow Dot + tritium front sight technology, the same white outline + tritium center rear sight, the same V-notch design with rear ledge, and the same standard height. The difference is the front sight width and its effect on the sight picture. The Big Dot is larger and easier for the eye to find quickly under stress, making it the faster option at typical defensive distances. The Standard Dot is smaller and allows more precise aiming at longer distances because it subtends less of the target. At close defensive ranges, both will produce center-mass hits. The choice is primarily about how you use the pistol: if pure speed at defensive distance is the priority, Big Dot; if you also shoot the pistol competitively or at range and want the ability to aim precisely, Standard Dot.

The Glow Dot is XS Sights' proprietary photoluminescent front sight element. Photoluminescent materials absorb energy from ambient and UV light and re-emit it as visible light in low-light conditions. The DXT2 front sight charges passively during normal carry — under sunlight, indoor lighting, or UV exposure — and glows green in dark or low-light conditions without batteries. The convex profile of the Glow Dot increases surface area, improving the rate and intensity of light absorption and re-emission. The Glow Dot works alongside the tritium insert: tritium provides a constant always-on glow regardless of prior light exposure, while the Glow Dot adds a brighter layer that peaks immediately after light exposure and fades until recharged. Together they give the front sight two independent low-light visibility sources.

The "dot the i" system simplifies the defensive sight picture to a single reference point. Rather than aligning three dots in a row as in a traditional three-dot system, the shooter places the front dot above the point of the V-shaped rear notch — like placing a dot on top of the letter i. This requires tracking one visual element instead of aligning three, which is faster under stress and less cognitively demanding. The V-notch rear also keeps more of the target visible alongside the front sight than a closed notch rear, improving situational awareness at defensive distances.

Yes. The DXT2 Standard Dot is a standard-height sight set designed to fit existing holsters without modification. As with any sight change on a form-fitted or retention holster, confirm fit with your holster manufacturer. For most standard holsters, no modification is needed. Open-top holsters are generally unaffected by sight changes.

Yes. The rear sight includes a squared ledge for one-handed slide manipulation. Hook the rear sight against a belt edge, holster rim, table, or boot heel and push the frame forward to rack the slide. This is a standard technique in defensive shooting curricula for malfunction clearing when one hand is injured or unavailable. The ledge does not create a snag hazard during a normal holster draw.

Tritium is a radioactive isotope with a half-life of approximately 12.3 years. Night sight inserts are brightest when new and gradually dim as tritium decays. After roughly 12 years the inserts will be at approximately half their original brightness — still visible in low-light but noticeably dimmer than new.
