The Glow Dot is convex rather than flat, increasing its surface area and therefore the rate and total quantity of light it can absorb, producing a stronger and more sustained glow. The Glow Dot works alongside the tritium insert: tritium provides constant, always-on glow regardless of prior light exposure, while the Glow Dot provides an additional yellow glow layer that is brightest immediately after a period of light exposure and gradually fades until recharged. In a traditional three-dot setup, the shooter must align a front dot between two rear dots — three visual elements in one plane, requiring more cognitive processing under stress. The DXT2 uses a single large front dot and a V-notch rear. To aim, the shooter places the front dot above the point of the V, like placing a dot on top of the letter i. This requires the shooter to track one visual reference rather than align three, which is faster and less error-prone when the brain is under the cognitive load of a defensive encounter. The V-notch rear also provides more target visibility on either side of the rear sight than a closed notch, improving situational awareness. Tritium is a radioactive isotope with a half-life of approximately 12.3 years. Night sight inserts are brightest when new and gradually dim as the tritium decays. After roughly 12 years, the tritium insert will be at approximately half its original brightness — still visible in low-light conditions but noticeably dimmer than a new set. Tritium-based sights do not require battery replacement, but the inserts will eventually need factory replacement if glow level becomes unacceptable.
