XS SIGHTS DXT2 BIG DOT ORANGE NIGHT SIGHTS FOR GLOCK
The XS Sights DXT2 Big Dot Orange Night Sights (GL-0009S-5N) are the second generation of XS Sights' flagship Big Dot defensive sight system, now featuring a high-contrast orange front sight with a proprietary photoluminescent Glow Dot. The front sight combines two separate low-light technologies: a tritium insert that glows in complete darkness without any power source, and a photoluminescent Glow Dot that absorbs ambient and UV light during normal use and re-emits that stored energy as visible glow when the lights go out. The convex profile of the Glow Dot increases the surface area exposed to incoming light, allowing it to absorb and retain a stronger charge than a flat photoluminescent element would. In low-light conditions, the result is a front sight with both an always-on tritium core and a surrounding orange glow — two distinct sources of visibility working simultaneously.
The rear sight pairs a white outline with a tritium center insert and uses the same V-notch design found across the DXT Big Dot lineup. The low-profile V-notch keeps the target visible on either side of the rear sight, and the "dot the i" sight picture — front dot placed above the V — requires the shooter to track one visual reference instead of aligning three dots in a row. The rear sight incorporates a squared ledge for one-handed slide manipulation: the shooter can hook the rear sight against a belt edge, holster rim, or boot heel to rack the slide when one hand is injured or occupied. These sights are machined from steel bar stock and fit standard holster options without modification.
Always glowing at constant brightness. No charging required. Provides baseline night visibility regardless of prior light exposure. Fades gradually over ~12 years.
Charges under ambient and UV light during normal carry. Re-emits stored light in low-light and dark conditions. Brightest immediately after light exposure, then fades until recharged.
The convex shape of the Glow Dot increases surface area relative to a flat dot, improving the rate and intensity of light absorption. Combined with the high-contrast orange color, the DXT2 front sight is highly visible across a wider range of low-light conditions than tritium alone.

High-contrast orange provides strong visual separation from the rear sight and most target backgrounds under varied lighting conditions. Orange is more visible than green against dark backgrounds in daylight, and the photoluminescent Glow Dot adds a charged glow on top of the color itself. For shooters whose eyes are slower to pick up green front sights in certain light conditions, the orange DXT2 offers a visually distinct alternative in the same Big Dot / V-notch platform.
The rear sight is shaped with a squared ledge that allows the shooter to hook it against a belt, holster rim, boot heel, or other firm surface to rack the slide using only the frame hand. This technique is standard in defensive shooting curricula for injured-hand malfunction clearing. The ledge geometry does not create a snag hazard during a normal draw from a standard holster.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Glow Dot and how does it work?
The Glow Dot is XS Sights' proprietary photoluminescent front sight element. Photoluminescent materials absorb energy from ambient and UV light during normal use and re-emit that stored energy as visible light when surrounding light levels drop. In practice, this means the DXT2 front sight charges passively during everyday carry — under sunlight, indoor lighting, or UV exposure — and glows orange in low-light conditions without batteries or manual activation. The Glow Dot is convex rather than flat, which increases its surface area and therefore the rate and total quantity of light it can absorb, resulting in a stronger and more sustained glow. The Glow Dot works alongside the tritium insert rather than replacing it: tritium provides a constant, always-on glow regardless of prior light exposure, while the Glow Dot provides an additional orange glow layer that is brightest immediately after a period of light exposure and gradually fades until recharged. Together they create a front sight with two independent low-light visibility sources.
How does the DXT2 differ from the standard DXT Big Dot?
The DXT2 is the second generation of the XS Sights Big Dot platform. The most significant upgrade is the addition of the photoluminescent Glow Dot to the front sight, which adds ambient light absorption and re-emission on top of the tritium insert present in the original DXT. The front sight color changed from green (DXT) to orange (DXT2), which increases contrast against many backgrounds and target environments. The DXT2 is a standard-height sight designed to fit existing holsters; the DXT Big Dot (GL-0004S-5) offered a suppressor height version rated for suppressors up to 1.375 inches in diameter. The DXT2 also adds Glock G45 to the compatibility list. Both use the same 0.188-inch Big Dot front diameter and the same "dot the i" V-notch sight picture. Shooters who already use standard holsters and want additional low-light front sight visibility beyond tritium alone will benefit most from the DXT2. Shooters who need suppressor height clearance should look at the DXT GL-0004S-5 instead.
What is the "dot the i" aiming system?
The "dot the i" system is XS Sights' approach to simplifying the defensive sight picture. In a traditional three-dot setup, the shooter must align a front dot between two rear dots — three visual elements in one plane, which requires more cognitive processing under stress. The DXT2 uses a single large front dot and a V-notch rear. To aim, the shooter places the front dot above the point of the V, like placing a dot on top of the letter i. This requires the shooter to track one visual reference rather than align three, which is faster and less error-prone when the brain is under the cognitive load of a defensive encounter. The V-notch rear also provides more target visibility on either side of the rear sight than a closed notch, which improves situational awareness during the engagement. The trade-off is reduced precision at longer range — the 0.188-inch front dot subtends more target at 25 yards than a small-dot three-dot sight — but for defensive distances this is rarely a practical limitation.
Will these fit in my standard Glock holster?
Yes. The DXT2 GL-0009S-5N is a standard-height sight set designed to fit existing holsters without modification. This is one of the differences between the DXT2 and the suppressor-height DXT Big Dot (GL-0004S-5): the DXT Big Dot adds height to clear suppressors but may require holster adjustment for some designs; the DXT2 fits standard holster options as noted in XS Sights' product specifications. Confirm fit with your specific holster manufacturer if you use a form-fitted or retention holster, as these designs are manufactured to the profile of the original equipment sights and any sight change can affect fit.
Can I use the rear sight ledge to rack the slide one-handed?
Yes. The rear sight is designed with a squared ledge specifically to enable one-handed slide manipulation. The technique involves hooking the rear sight against a fixed surface — a belt edge, holster rim, table edge, or boot heel — and pushing the frame forward to rack the slide while the strong hand is injured, occupied, or otherwise unavailable. This is a standard technique taught in many defensive shooting courses for malfunction clearing and emergency reloads under physical compromise. The ledge provides enough purchase to execute the movement without requiring a sharp or aggressive edge that would snag during a normal holster draw.
How long does tritium last in night sights?
Tritium is a radioactive isotope with a half-life of approximately 12.3 years. Night sight inserts are brightest when new and gradually dim as the tritium decays. After roughly 12 years, the tritium insert will be at approximately half its original brightness — still visible in low-light conditions but noticeably dimmer than a new set. Tritium-based sights do not require battery replacement, but the inserts will eventually need factory replacement if glow level becomes unacceptable. The photoluminescent Glow Dot on the DXT2 front sight does not decay on this timescale; it will continue to absorb and re-emit ambient light at full effectiveness regardless of tritium age, as photoluminescent materials do not have a comparable degradation period under normal use.
About XS Sights
XS Sights (formerly XS Sight Systems) is a Fort Worth, Texas company that has been manufacturing tritium and fiber-optic sight systems for defensive firearms since the mid-1990s. They are best known for their Big Dot sight philosophy — a deliberate departure from traditional three-dot sighting systems, designed specifically for the speed and stress conditions of real-world defensive use. XS sights are used across law enforcement, military, and civilian defensive carry communities. The DXT2 represents the current generation of their tritium Big Dot platform, adding photoluminescent Glow Dot technology to the proven V-notch / Big Dot sight picture system.
