GEISSELE S3G SUPER DYNAMIC 3 GUN AR-15 TRIGGER — 05166

3-Gun Competition Hybrid Pull Flat Bow 3.25 or 4 lb Pull Two Springs Included EDM Tool Steel AR-15 / AR-308 .154" Mil-Spec Pins

The Geissele Automatics S3G Super Dynamic 3 Gun Trigger (05166) was engineered specifically for the speed demands of 3-Gun competition — stages where you need to transition quickly between targets at close quarters and put rounds on steel as fast as your hands can move. It combines the match-grade semi-automatic performance of Geissele's SSF combat trigger with the smooth, fast feel of a single-stage design, producing a hybrid pull that delivers the speed of a single-stage and the positive reset and safety characteristics of a two-stage.

The flat trigger bow is the most immediately noticeable difference from Geissele's curved-bow triggers. Flat bows provide increased mechanical leverage on the pull, which reduces the perceived trigger weight and gives your finger better tactile feedback through the pull cycle — particularly useful for feeling the reset quickly between shots. The short length of pull and quick, positive reset are what 3-Gun and run-and-gun shooters need to keep splits tight across multi-round strings.

The S3G ships with two different spring sets, giving you a choice of a 3.25 lb or 4 lb pull weight. Competitive shooters who run the lightest legal setup for their division can run the 3.25 lb spring; those who want a slightly heavier, more authoritative feel for mixed-use or home defense can run the 4 lb spring. Both are swapped without tools. Like all Geissele triggers, the S3G is EDM wire cut from heavy-duty tool steel, uses standard .154" mil-spec pins, and drops into any AR-15 or AR-308 pattern lower without modification.

✔ Best for: 3-Gun and practical shooting competitors, run-and-gun stages, shooters who prefer a flat bow, anyone who wants a fast hybrid trigger with user-selectable pull weight

✘ Not for: Long-range precision shooting where a traditional two-stage wall and break is preferred — consider the SSA-E instead; not for select-fire configurations; not adjustable beyond the included spring options

? Note: Trigger pull weights are approximate and may vary slightly between rifles. Standard-assembly installation required — not a drop-in cassette. No FFL transfer required.

Key Features

  • Hybrid Pull — Single-Stage Speed with Two-Stage Reliability — The S3G was developed by combining the match-grade semi-automatic performance of the Geissele SSF combat trigger with the smooth, fast feel of a single-stage design. The result is a trigger that takes up quickly without a defined wall, breaks cleanly, and resets with a short, positive click — ideal for fast splits on multiple targets.
  • Flat Trigger Bow — The flat bow geometry increases mechanical leverage on the pull, reducing perceived trigger weight and providing better tactile feedback through the pull cycle. Flat bows are the preferred choice in competitive shooting for their ability to help shooters feel the reset faster between shots.
  • Two Springs Included — 3.25 lb or 4 lb Pull — The S3G ships with two spring sets so you can tune the pull weight to your preference or competition division rules. Swap to the lighter 3.25 lb spring for maximum competition performance, or run the 4 lb spring for a slightly heavier, more versatile feel. No tools required to swap.
  • Short Pull and Quick Positive Reset — Designed specifically for the fast, multi-target stage demands of 3-Gun competition. The short overall pull length and quick reset let you fire follow-up shots faster without sacrificing positive trigger control between rounds.
  • EDM Wire Cut Tool Steel — Every component is cut using Electrical Discharge Machining for tight dimensional tolerances and consistent surface geometry on the engagement surfaces. The same manufacturing standard applied to the SSA-E and SSA.
  • Mil-Spec .154" Pins — Universal Fit — Drops into any standard mil-spec AR-15 or AR-308 pattern lower receiver without modifications. No special lower, no gunsmithing.
  • Built for AR-15 and AR-308 — Compatible with both 5.56/.223 AR-15 pattern and .308/7.62x51 AR-10/AR-308 pattern lowers, so one trigger covers multiple builds in your safe.

Bill of Materials — What's In the Box

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "hybrid" mean — is this a single-stage or two-stage trigger?

The S3G sits between the two. A traditional two-stage trigger has a distinct first stage take-up and a defined wall before the break. A single-stage trigger fires as soon as you apply enough force with no staged travel. The S3G's hybrid design takes the smooth, fast feel and short overall travel of a single-stage and combines it with the positive reset and safety margin of a two-stage. The practical result is a trigger that breaks cleanly and quickly without a pronounced wall, but still resets positively and reliably — exactly what 3-Gun competition stages demand.

Which spring should I use — 3.25 lb or 4 lb?

For competition use where every split counts and your division ruleset permits, the 3.25 lb spring delivers maximum speed. For a home defense or general-use rifle where you want a slightly more positive, deliberate feel, the 4 lb spring is the better choice. Both are easy to swap — you can change between them without tools in a few minutes. Many shooters run the lighter spring for competition and swap to the heavier spring if the rifle doubles as a defensive gun.

How does the flat bow compare to a curved bow trigger?

A flat bow provides increased mechanical leverage because your finger contacts the trigger face at a more direct angle, particularly when using a straight trigger finger technique. This reduces the perceived pull weight and improves the tactile feedback you feel through the trigger — especially at the reset point. Competitive shooters generally prefer flat bows for fast, multi-target shooting. Curved bows (like those on the SSA-E and G2S) are preferred by some shooters for precision applications where a consistent finger index is more important than raw speed.

Will the S3G fit in my AR-10 or .308 lower?

Yes. The S3G is compatible with both AR-15 pattern and AR-308 / AR-10 pattern lower receivers that use standard .154" trigger and hammer pins. As with all Geissele triggers, verify that your specific lower accepts a standard safety selector before ordering if it uses a proprietary design. .170" large-pin lowers (some DPMS pattern) are not compatible.

Is the S3G appropriate for home defense or duty use?

The S3G was designed primarily for competition, but it is mechanically reliable and safe for duty or home defense use. The 4 lb spring option gives you a more authoritative pull weight appropriate for defensive applications. However, if your primary intent is home defense rather than competition, the SSA-E or G2S — with their traditional two-stage curved bow design and slightly heavier pull — may be a better fit for that role. The S3G's hybrid pull can feel unfamiliar under stress if you have not trained extensively with it.

How is the S3G different from the SSA-E?

Both are priced the same and built from EDM wire cut tool steel, but they are designed for different applications. The SSA-E is a traditional two-stage trigger with a curved bow, a defined first stage, and a crisp second stage break — optimized for precision and accuracy at distance. The S3G is a hybrid trigger with a flat bow, a short hybrid pull, and a quick reset — optimized for speed in competition. If you shoot primarily at distance or want the most precise trigger feel, choose the SSA-E. If you run 3-Gun stages or need the fastest possible splits, choose the S3G.

How difficult is installation?

The S3G installs identically to any standard mil-spec trigger group. Remove your existing trigger and hammer pins, drop in the S3G components, and reinsert the pins. Most AR owners can complete it with an armorer's block and roll pin punches in under 15 minutes. No gunsmithing or lower receiver modifications are required for any mil-spec .154" lower.
