The Geissele Automatics G2S Two Stage AR-15 Trigger (05145) delivers the core two-stage experience that made Geissele famous — at a more accessible price point than the SSA or SSA-E. It is machined from the same EDM wire cut tool steel as the SSA, uses the same curved trigger bow, and produces the same smooth first-stage take-up and consistent second-stage break that has made two-stage triggers the preferred choice for precision AR shooters. Externally and functionally, there is no visible difference from the SSA when the trigger is installed in the rifle.
Where the G2S differs from its more expensive siblings is in its production process: the G2S omits laser markings, uses a different hammer pin retention system, and is spot-checked via magnetic particle inspection rather than fully inspected. These are manufacturing efficiencies that allow Geissele to bring the cost down — not compromises in the steel, the geometry, or the trigger feel. The result is a trigger that shoots like a Geissele and carries Geissele's reliability, at a price that makes sense for a training rifle, a budget build, or a first serious trigger upgrade.
Installation is identical to any mil-spec trigger group. The G2S uses standard .154" trigger and hammer pins and drops into any mil-spec stripped AR-15 lower or AR-308 pattern lower without modifications. With a total pull weight in the 4.25–4.75 lb range, it sits slightly heavier than the SSA-E but remains a significant improvement over a standard mil-spec trigger for both training and home defense applications.
✔ Best for: Shooters wanting a genuine Geissele two-stage trigger at a lower price, training rifles, budget AR builds, home defense, range use, and first-time trigger upgraders
✘ Not for: Competition or precision shooting where every fraction of a pound of pull weight matters — consider the SSA-E instead; not for single-stage trigger preference; not for select-fire configurations
? Note: Trigger pull weights are approximate and may vary slightly between rifles. Standard-assembly installation required — not a drop-in cassette. No FFL transfer required.
The G2S ships as a complete trigger group assembly. All components needed for a standard mil-spec installation are included — use your existing lower receiver's .154" trigger and hammer pins.
| Component | Part / Brand | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | G2S — Geissele Automatics | Curved bow; EDM wire cut tool steel; two-stage geometry |
| Hammer | G2S — Geissele Automatics | EDM wire cut tool steel; different pin retention vs. SSA |
| Disconnector | G2S — Geissele Automatics | Precision fit to G2S trigger geometry |
| Trigger Spring | Geissele Automatics | Tuned for G2S two-stage pull weight range |
| Hammer Spring | Geissele Automatics | Provides reliable primer ignition across all platforms |
* Trigger and hammer pins (.154") are not included — reuse your existing mil-spec lower receiver pins.
All three triggers are two-stage designs cut from the same EDM wire cut tool steel, and all three use the same curved trigger bow. The G2S differs from the SSA and SSA-E in three ways: it has no laser markings on the components, it uses a different system to retain the hammer pin in place, and its parts are only spot-checked via magnetic particle inspection rather than fully inspected. None of these differences affect trigger feel or reliability — they are production efficiencies that allow Geissele to offer the G2S at a lower price point. The SSA-E additionally has reduced, refined pull weights; the G2S runs slightly heavier at approximately 4.25–4.75 lb total vs. the SSA-E's ~3.5 lb.
The G2S has a total pull weight of approximately 4.25–4.75 lb across both stages. Stage one is a smooth take-up and stage two is a crisp, consistent break. Geissele notes that actual pull weights may vary slightly between rifles due to differences in lower receiver tolerances, spring seating, and fit. A trigger pull gauge after installation will give you the exact figure for your specific rifle.
Yes. Like the SSA and SSA-E, the G2S is compatible with both AR-15 pattern and AR-308 / AR-10 pattern lower receivers that use standard .154" trigger and hammer pins. If your .308 lower uses .170" large-diameter pins (common on some DPMS-pattern designs), the G2S will not fit without modification.
The G2S is a standard trigger group assembly, not a self-contained drop-in cassette. Installation involves removing your existing trigger and hammer pins, dropping in the G2S components, and reinserting the pins. Most AR owners can complete it with an armorer's block and roll pin punches in under 15 minutes. No gunsmithing or lower receiver modifications are required for any mil-spec .154" lower.
Yes. The G2S uses the same material and basic geometry as the SSA, and Geissele built its reputation on triggers for military and law enforcement use. The slightly heavier pull weight of the G2S (4.25–4.75 lb) is actually considered an advantage in a duty or home defense context by some shooters, as it reduces the chance of an unintended discharge under stress. It is a reliable, consistent trigger that performs well in defensive applications.
If you are building a training rifle, a general-purpose home defense AR, or your first serious trigger upgrade, the G2S delivers the core Geissele two-stage experience at a lower cost. If you are building a dedicated precision or competition rifle where every fraction of a pound matters and you want the lightest, crispest possible break, the SSA-E is the better investment. For most shooters, especially those who have never shot a quality two-stage trigger before, the G2S will be a substantial and satisfying upgrade over a mil-spec trigger.
Magnetic particle inspection (MP) is a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and near-surface cracks in metal parts. The SSA and SSA-E are fully MP inspected (every part on every trigger). The G2S is spot inspected, meaning a sample of parts from each production run are tested rather than every individual component. For the vast majority of users, this distinction has no practical impact — Geissele's manufacturing quality control means defective parts are exceptionally rare. It is a cost reduction, not an indicator of inferior parts.
