BCM GUNFIGHTER MK2 AMBIDEXTROUS CHARGING HANDLE LARGE LATCH — GFHMK2LRGAMBI

Ambidextrous Large Latch 7075-T6 Aluminum MIL-SPEC Forgings Gas Exhaust Channels Snag-Free Profile AR-15 / M16 / M4 0.18 lb

The BCM GUNFIGHTER MK2 Ambidextrous Charging Handle (GFHMK2LRGAMBI) is the result of over a decade of continuous refinement driven by feedback from real-world combat operations. Machined from 7075-T6 aluminum using MIL-SPEC grade forgings—not castings—the MK2 is built to absorb the abuse of sustained use without the dimensional drift or stress failures that lower-grade materials invite. Bravo Company Manufacturing designed the GUNFIGHTER series specifically to address shortcomings in the standard M4 and M16 charging handle identified by operators in the field.

The large ambidextrous latch extends beyond the main body of the handle, giving the shooter a positive, full-grip purchase from either side of the rifle without switching hands or breaking firing grip. The snag-free profile and contours prevent the latch from catching on slings, plate carriers, and gear during movement—a common point of failure in standard designs. The MK2 also addresses the structural problem of the original charging handle pivot pin: by keeping the operating energy closer to the centerline of the carbine, the design eliminates load on the pivot pin and provides an uninterrupted engagement surface with no pinch points, reducing the risk of manipulation failures under stress.

The MK2 features upper, lower, and side gas exhaust channels engineered to redirect propellant gas away from the shooter’s face during operation. These channels are optimized for the BCM MK2 Upper Receiver, where the geometry is specifically matched, but they provide measurable gas diversion improvement on any mil-spec AR-15 upper receiver. For suppressed builds or short-barreled rifles where rearward gas venting is a concern, the MK2’s exhaust geometry is a meaningful upgrade over a standard handle.

✔ Best for: Suppressed AR-15 builds, SBR configurations, ambidextrous and left-handed shooters, duty and tactical use, BCM MK2 upper owners, shooters who prefer a large latch for positive one-hand manipulation.

✘ Not for: AR-10 / LR-308 / SR-25 platforms (AR-15 mil-spec only); shooters who prefer a short or medium latch profile for minimal snag potential.

✏ Note: Verify federal and local regulations before configuring a short-barreled rifle. SBR ownership requires NFA compliance.

Key Features

  • MIL-SPEC Grade Forged 7075-T6 Aluminum — The MK2 is produced from MIL-SPEC grade forgings, not castings. Forged aluminum delivers superior grain structure and fatigue resistance compared to cast components, giving the MK2 the durability to sustain demanding use without dimensional change or cracking at stress points.
  • Large Ambidextrous Latch — The large latch extends beyond the main body of the handle for a positive, full-grip purchase from either side of the rifle. Left-handed shooters, support-hand operators, and shooters in low-light or high-stress conditions all benefit from the increased surface area and reach of the large latch.
  • Snag-Free Profile — All contours and edges on the MK2 are designed to eliminate snag points that can catch on sling hardware, chest rigs, pouches, and vehicle interiors during movement. A large latch that snags on gear is worse than no latch upgrade at all; BCM engineered the geometry to prevent it.
  • Upper, Lower & Side Gas Exhaust Channels — Three-axis exhaust channels redirect gas that would otherwise vent rearward through the charging handle channel toward the shooter’s face. Optimized for the BCM MK2 Upper Receiver geometry and effective as an improvement on all mil-spec AR-15 uppers.
  • Centerline Design — Pivot Pin Load Eliminated — The MK2 routes operating forces through the centerline of the carbine, eliminating the off-axis load that standard charging handles place on the pivot pin. The result is an uninterrupted engagement surface, no pinch points, and reduced risk of manipulation failures during time-critical handling.
  • Hardcoat Anodize Finish — All components are finished in hardcoat anodize for wear and corrosion resistance. The finish is bonded into the aluminum surface rather than applied as a coating, providing lasting protection through sustained field use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the GUNFIGHTER MK2 different from a standard mil-spec charging handle?

The standard mil-spec charging handle was designed for the original M16 manual of arms and has not kept pace with how the weapon is actually used today. BCM spent over a decade collecting feedback from combat operators and made structural changes at every identified failure point. The MK2 uses MIL-SPEC grade forgings instead of castings, routes operating forces through the centerline of the rifle to eliminate pivot pin load, adds three-axis gas exhaust channels, provides a large ambidextrous latch with a snag-free profile, and delivers all of this as a direct drop-in replacement with no receiver modification required.

What do the gas exhaust channels actually do?

On a standard charging handle, propellant gas that vents rearward through the bolt carrier group has a direct path through the charging handle channel toward the shooter’s face. This is a minor issue on a normally aspirated carbine but becomes significant on suppressed builds, short-barreled rifles, and high-round-count use where backpressure is elevated. The MK2’s upper, lower, and side exhaust channels redirect that gas downward and outward rather than straight back. The channels are machined to match the geometry of the BCM MK2 Upper Receiver for maximum diversion, but they provide a meaningful improvement over a flat-backed standard handle on any mil-spec upper.

What does it mean to “eliminate load on the pivot pin”?

A standard charging handle pivots on a small pin in the upper receiver. When the latch is engaged during charging, the operating force is transmitted through the latch on one side of the handle, creating an off-axis load on that pivot pin. Under repeated high-stress use, this can cause the pin or latch seat to wear unevenly, introduce slop, or create a pinch point that interrupts the engagement surface. The MK2’s design keeps the operating energy closer to the centerline of the carbine, distributing force more evenly and maintaining a clean, uninterrupted engagement surface. The practical result is more consistent operation and reduced likelihood of a manipulation failure under stress.

Is the large latch going to snag on my gear?

BCM specifically engineered the MK2’s latch and body contours to be snag-free despite the large latch size. The latch protrudes enough for a positive grip but is shaped and radiused to deflect rather than catch on sling hardware, chest rig straps, plate carrier cummerbunds, and magazine pouches. That said, the large latch does have more surface area than a short-latch variant. Shooters running extremely tight kit configurations or who find any latch profile snags their specific gear should review the short-latch GUNFIGHTER MK2 variant as an alternative.

Does this work on all AR-15 uppers, or only BCM receivers?

The GUNFIGHTER MK2 is compatible with all mil-spec AR-15 / M16 / M4 upper receivers as a direct drop-in replacement — no modification required. The gas exhaust channels are optimized for the BCM MK2 Upper Receiver, where the internal geometry is specifically matched for maximum gas diversion, but they provide improved performance over a standard handle on any mil-spec upper. If you are running a BCM MK2 upper, you get the full benefit of the optimized channel geometry. Any other mil-spec upper still sees an improvement.

Will the GUNFIGHTER MK2 fit my AR-10 or .308 build?

No. The GFHMK2LRGAMBI is sized for the AR-15 / M16 / M4 charging handle channel only. AR-10, LR-308, and SR-25 pattern uppers use a wider charging handle channel and require a .308-specific handle. Confirm your platform before ordering.

What is the difference between the MK2 and the original BCM GUNFIGHTER charging handle?

The MK2 is BCM’s second-generation GUNFIGHTER design, incorporating structural improvements and geometry refinements over the original. The most significant additions in the MK2 are the three-axis gas exhaust channels (upper, lower, and side) and the centerline-force design that eliminates pivot pin load. The original GUNFIGHTER introduced the ambidextrous latch and snag-free profile; the MK2 builds on that foundation with gas management and structural refinements informed by continued field use.
