Why 5.56 in a 16″ AR-15 rifle

5.56 NATO is the AR-15’s native cartridge: it fires 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington, magazines and ammunition are everywhere, and the 1:8 twist stabilizes everything from 55 gr FMJ to 77 gr match bullets. A mid-length gas system on a 16″ barrel keeps the impulse soft and the parts wear low.

Running a Suppressor

The muzzle is threaded 1/2x28, so a direct-thread HUB adapter or any 5.56 muzzle-device mount works. For a can that comes on and off, add Faxon’s patented adjustable gas block to tune for the extra back-pressure.

Is the Faxon SPORT 16″ 5.56 AR15 Rifle a good AR-15?

It’s built around the parts that matter most: a Faxon Duty Series 4150 CMV barrel that’s borescoped, air gauged, headspace gauged, and 100% MPI inspected; Faxon forged receivers; the Superfinished 5.56 M16 BCG; and a free-float M-LOK handguard. It’s assembled in Ohio by the company that makes the barrel, and it’s covered by the Faxon Lifetime Guarantee.

What comes in the box?

The complete rifle, Magpul® PMAG® 30 Gen M2 MOE (5.56/.223) magazine, cable lock, chamber flag, owner’s manual. Optics, sling, and suppressor are not included.

What ammunition and magazines does it use?

5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. Magazines: Standard AR-15 / STANAG 5.56 magazines. Bolt: standard 5.56 / M16-pattern bolt (installed).

Can I put a suppressor on it?

Yes. The muzzle is threaded 1/2x28, so a direct-thread mount or a muzzle-device mount works. For a can that comes on and off, an adjustable gas block makes it run softer suppressed.

What’s the difference between SPORT, PRO, and PREMIERE?

All three use Faxon barrels, superfinished Faxon BCGs, and Faxon forged receivers. SPORT keeps mil-spec furniture and controls to hold the price down. PRO adds the Schmid® match trigger, ambi safety, BREEK® gas-blocking charging handle, B5 Systems® furniture or an SB Tactical® brace, and an optimized Faxon muzzle device. PREMIERE adds Match Series 1:5 barrels, the patented adjustable gas block, and Plan B suppressor-ready muzzles.

Nitride or chrome lining: which is better?

Chrome lining still has its place, mainly sustained automatic fire. For the vast majority of shooters, Faxon’s salt-bath QPQ nitride does what they need and more: it hardens the bore and exterior, resists corrosion, adds virtually nothing to the dimensions (a few ten-thousandths of an inch, about a tenth the width of a human hair), and needs little to no break-in.
