ARKEN OPTICS EP-L4 6-24x50 FFP RIFLE SCOPE — VHR ILLUMINATED / MRAD TURRETS / 30mm

First Focal Plane VHR — Variable Hunter Reticle MRAD Turrets Lightweight 25 oz 30mm Tube AZS Zero Stop 0.1 MRAD Clicks Capped Windage

The Arken Optics EP-L4 6-24x50 FFP VHR MRAD (EPL4-6241VH) is the MRAD-turret variant of the EP-L4 6-24x50 VHR scope. All specifications are identical to the MOA variant (EPL4-6240VHR) — 30mm tube, 25 oz lightweight build, Japanese ED glass, red-illuminated VHR center, AZS zero stop, capped windage, 20 MRAD of elevation travel, side parallax from 10 yards, and CCW turret rotation. The single difference is click unit: 0.1 MRAD per click rather than 1/4 MOA per click, with 8 MRAD per revolution rather than 20 MOA per revolution. This variant is the right choice for hunters who work with metric-based ballistic data, rangefinders that output in meters and MRAD, or who simply prefer to keep their measurements in a consistent unit system.

At 6-24x on a 30mm tube, the EP-L4 MRAD sits at a practical intersection of field versatility and mount compatibility. The 6x minimum gives 18.55 feet of field of view at 100 yards for close-range shooting and low-light glassing, while 24x brings distant targets into clear detail for shot placement. Standard 30mm rings — the most common configuration in the industry — fit this scope directly with no specialty hardware. At 25 oz and $329.99, the EP-L4 MRAD delivers FFP, red center illumination, and zero stop in a pack-ready weight class for hunters who want MRAD turrets on a lightweight platform.

MRAD Turrets on a Lightweight Hunter FFP Scope
0.1 MRAD Per Click

Each click moves point of impact 0.1 MRAD — approximately 1 cm at 100 meters, 0.36 inches at 100 yards. At 8 MRAD per revolution and 80 clicks per revolution, the relationship between turret clicks and MIL-based range data stays in a consistent unit with no conversion factor needed. Ten clicks = 1 MRAD.

Works With Metric Ballistic Data

Hunters who use ballistic apps outputting drops in MRAD, rangefinders displaying meters-per-MRAD, or mil-dot-based reference charts can use this scope's turrets directly without converting their data to MOA. Input your range-to-target in meters, read MRAD drop from your app or card, dial the MRAD value on the turret.

VHR Reticle — Holdover First

The Variable Hunter Reticle is designed around hold-and-shoot technique. Most hunters using the VHR use the reticle's holdover marks for the shot rather than dialing elevation for every distance. The MRAD turrets support hunters who do want to dial corrections but prefer to do so in metric, without requiring that workflow for every shot.

20 MRAD Total Elevation

The EP-L4's 20 MRAD of total elevation travel (2.5 full turret revolutions of 8 MRAD each) covers typical hunting engagement distances across most rifle calibers. For hunters zeroed at 100 meters, most field shooting from 50 meters to beyond 400 meters falls within usable elevation range on typical hunting cartridges without needing to approach the end of travel.

CCW Turret Rotation on This Scope

The EP-L4's elevation turret increases elevation with counter-clockwise rotation — opposite the direction of many common scopes where clockwise is up. This is consistent across the Arken EP series and does not affect click value, accuracy, or adjustment range. Verify rotation direction during your first zeroing session to establish correct muscle memory before field use. The AZS zero stop is reached by rotating back clockwise toward the stop.

Capped Windage — Field Rationale

The windage cap keeps your zeroed windage protected from field exposure. Once you establish your windage zero at the range, the cap goes back on and windage stays set for the season. For hunting, where wind calls are typically managed with holdover from the VHR reticle rather than dialing windage between shots, the capped design removes an exposed turret that would otherwise be subject to inadvertent movement in a scabbard, blind, or pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the only difference between this scope and the MOA variant (EPL4-6240VHR)?

The turret click unit is the only difference. This MRAD variant (EPL4-6241VH) clicks in 0.1 MRAD increments, with 8 MRAD per revolution. The MOA variant (EPL4-6240VHR) clicks in 1/4 MOA increments, with 20 MOA per revolution. Every other specification is identical: 30mm tube, 25 oz, VHR reticle, red center illumination, AZS zero stop, capped windage, 6-24x magnification, 50mm objective, Japanese ED glass, eye relief, field of view, parallax range, length, weight, accessories, and price. Choose this variant if your ballistic data, rangefinder output, or workflow uses MRAD. Choose EPL4-6240VHR if your data or workflow uses MOA.

How does the VHR reticle work with MRAD turrets?

The VHR (Variable Hunter Reticle) is a practical hunting reticle with a floating center aiming point and holdover marks designed for field shooting distances. Because this is an FFP scope, the reticle marks are accurate at any magnification. The MRAD turrets are independent of the reticle pattern — you can use the VHR holdover marks for most shooting and dial the MRAD elevation turret when you have time for a precise correction. Hunters who prefer MRAD typically use it because their rangefinder or ballistic app outputs in metric, making it simpler to dial a MRAD value directly without converting to MOA. For quick hunting shots where you use the reticle's holdover instead of dialing, the turret unit choice matters less.

What rings or mounts fit this scope?

The EP-L4 uses a 30mm main tube — the most common tube diameter in the scope industry. Standard 30mm rings in low, medium, or high height fit directly. No specialty or oversized mounts are needed. At 13.8 inches in length and a 50mm objective, medium-height rings typically provide adequate clearance over the barrel on most bolt-action rifles, but verify clearance based on your specific receiver height and barrel contour. The lightweight 25 oz build makes this scope well-suited for ultralight rifle builds where total system weight is a priority.

Does this scope need a 20 MOA rail?

A 20 MOA canted rail is not required but can extend the effective range of the EP-L4's elevation travel. With 20 MRAD (68 MOA) of total elevation adjustment, a flat rail uses some of that travel to zero at 100 yards, leaving the remainder for longer-range corrections. A 20 MOA canted rail shifts the zero point so more of the turret's upward travel is reserved for dialing to distant targets. For most hunting applications within 400 meters on typical centerfire cartridges, a flat rail provides sufficient adjustment range. For extended-range hunting or calibers with higher ballistic drops, a 20 MOA rail may be worthwhile.

Is the battery included?

No. The EP-L4 uses a CR2032 coin cell battery for illumination, which is not included. CR2032 batteries are widely available at pharmacies, hardware stores, and sporting goods retailers. Purchase one before your first range session. If the battery depletes in the field, the scope continues to function normally as a non-illuminated FFP scope — the illumination circuit is independent of the optics and mechanical systems. Carry a spare CR2032 in your pack for extended field use if you plan to run illumination regularly.
