A vertical foregrip positions the support hand perpendicular to the bore, which can feel stable for static shooting but puts the wrist in a cocked position that creates joint stress under recoil and limits lateral mobility. The KAG’s forward rake angle aligns the wrist more naturally, allows a lower support elbow position, and puts the support arm in a pulling-back posture that works with the rifle’s recoil impulse rather than against it. The KAG also has a significantly smaller profile than most vertical grips, so it does not create the bulk or clearance issues that a vertical grip introduces on a slim handguard. For most modern carbine techniques, an angled grip like the KAG is the preferred choice over a vertical foregrip.

The KAG is an angled foregrip, not a vertical foregrip. Under ATF guidance, a vertical foregrip added to a pistol-configuration firearm can change its legal classification. An angled foregrip that does not extend perpendicular to the bore axis is generally not treated as a vertical foregrip for NFA purposes and is commonly used on pistol-configuration AR-pattern platforms without reclassification concerns. The KAG’s angled front face and channel profile create a stable contact surface when the handguard is rested against a barricade, vehicle window sill, wall edge, or similar support. The BCM MCMR (Modular Combat M-LOK Rail) is BCM’s M-LOK handguard line. The "MCMR" designation in the MPN indicates this is the M-LOK version of the KAG, optimized to pair with the MCMR handguard’s slot geometry and profile. However, the KAG is not exclusive to BCM handguards — it is compatible with any M-LOK handguard from any manufacturer that follows the standard M-LOK slot specification.
