LPVO Rifle Scope • 1–6x24mm • SFP • ACSS NOVA Reticle • 2024 ICA Scope of the Year
The Primary Arms SLx 1–6x24mm SFP Gen IV Rifle Scope is the fourth-generation refinement of Primary Arms' best-selling carbine optic — delivering a fully upgraded optical system, an integrated magnification throw lever, and the all-new ACSS NOVA Reticle in a purpose-built LPVO package. Backed by a 2023 NTOA Silver-Tier rating earned through rigorous field evaluation and recognized as the 2024 Industry Choice Awards Scope of the Year, the SLx 1–6x has earned its standing as one of the most capable values in the low power variable optic category.
At the core of this optic is the ACSS NOVA Reticle, a high-efficiency fiber optic wire design that delivers Red Dot Bright® illumination — a true, daylight-visible red dot at 1x powered by the fiber wire rather than a standalone LED emitter. Across 11 illumination settings, the ACSS NOVA provides a broad, intuitive toolset: built-in target ranging, MIL subtensions for hold-over and wind corrections, and moving target leads for tracking engagements. On a second focal plane scope, the reticle subtensions are calibrated at maximum magnification (6x), making 6x the reference power for ranging and precise corrections while 1x delivers a wide, fast field of view for close-quarters work.
The optic features capped, low-profile, tool-adjustable turrets with a 0.1 MIL click value and 120 MOA total travel in both windage and elevation. The integrated magnification throw lever allows fast transitions between 1x and 6x without a separate aftermarket accessory. Eye relief is a generous 4 inches across the magnification range, and the 30mm main tube is compatible with a wide selection of available rings and mounts. Scope caps and a CR2032 battery are included.
✔ Best for: AR-15 and carbine builds intended for general-purpose use, 3-gun competition, home defense, or patrol and duty applications. The 1–6x range excels where engagements can range from contact distance to several hundred yards and a single optic needs to handle both CQB and mid-range work. The NTOA rating and ICA recognition make this a proven choice for professional and serious recreational use alike.
✘ Not for: Dedicated precision long-range builds where an FFP scope or higher magnification is preferred. As an SFP scope, subtension values are only accurate at 6x — shooters who regularly use partial magnification settings for ranging should consider a first focal plane alternative.
ℹ Mount note: Requires a 30mm scope mount or rings (not included). Verify mount height is appropriate for your rifle's rail height and stock configuration, and confirm iron sight co-witness height preference (absolute vs. lower 1/3) before ordering a mount.
Verify package contents upon receipt. Battery and scope caps are listed as included per manufacturer specifications.

In a Second Focal Plane (SFP) scope, the reticle remains a constant apparent size as you change magnification. This means the ACSS NOVA's ranging marks, MIL subtensions, and holdover lines are only calibrated to their published values at maximum magnification (6x). At 1x through 5x, the subtension spacing represents different real-world distances than the printed values — so for ranging and precise ballistic hold-overs, always confirm you are at 6x. For close-quarters or rapid engagement at lower magnification, the illuminated center dot is the primary aiming point regardless of subtension accuracy. First Focal Plane (FFP) scopes maintain accurate subtensions at all power settings, but SFP scopes typically offer a brighter, cleaner reticle appearance at 1x for CQB work — which is the core trade-off in choosing an SFP LPVO.
The ACSS NOVA is a proprietary Primary Arms reticle designed to combine the fast-acquisition performance of a red dot sight at 1x with a full MRAD BDC and ranging reticle at higher magnification. It uses a fiber optic wire instead of a traditional LED emitter for the illuminated aiming point — what Primary Arms calls Red Dot Bright. The result is a very bright, crisp illuminated center that is visible in full daylight across all 11 brightness settings. At 1x with illumination active, the ACSS NOVA performs like a magnified red dot: fast, both-eyes-open target acquisition with no discernible magnification effect. At 6x, the full reticle overlay provides ranging stadia, MRAD subtensions for windage and holdover, and moving target lead marks for engaging non-stationary targets.
This scope requires a 30mm scope mount or 30mm rings. Mount height depends on your rifle platform and whether you want a co-witness with iron sights. On a flat-top AR-15, most shooters choose either an absolute co-witness (iron sights appear in the center of the optic's field of view) or a lower 1/3 co-witness (irons appear in the lower third) — each requires a different mount height. Common 30mm mount options include lever-release QD mounts for fast removal and traditional ring sets. A scope mount is not included with this optic — verify ring height compatibility with your specific rifle and stock configuration before purchasing a mount.
Yes — the SLx 1–6x24mm Gen IV was designed specifically for these use cases. The 1x low end with Red Dot Bright illumination handles close-quarters and high-speed stages cleanly, while 6x provides the reach needed for precision and distance engagements. The 2023 NTOA Silver-Tier rating is particularly significant for duty and law enforcement applications: NTOA evaluations are conducted by active practitioners under field conditions, not controlled lab settings. For 3-gun, the integrated throw lever and broad 1x field of view (120 ft at 100 yards) make it competitive with dedicated LPVOs at significantly higher price points.
The SLx 1–6x24mm uses a single CR2032 3V lithium coin cell battery, which is widely available and inexpensive. Battery life varies based on brightness setting and how frequently the illumination is left on. Turning the illumination off between uses is standard practice with any battery-powered optic. A fresh CR2032 is included with the scope at purchase. The ACSS NOVA's fiber optic wire design is inherently efficient, and the CR2032 format allows fast, tool-free field replacement — no screwdriver required.
