Why 338 ARC, and Why This Barrel

338 ARC puts a heavy .338 bullet in an AR-15-sized package. Its strength is subsonic: a long, heavy projectile moving below the speed of sound, quiet behind a suppressor and still carrying real energy. Short barrels are where it lives, because subsonic loads don’t need length to reach their velocity.

That bullet needs a fast twist. The 1:5 rifling on this 9″ barrel is there to stabilize the longest, heaviest .338 projectiles. Pistol-length gas is the correct system for a 9″ barrel, and the adjustable block lets you bring the gas down for a suppressor or up for unsuppressed supersonic loads.

What “Match Series” Means

Match Series is Faxon’s stainless precision-barrel line: 416R stainless, button rifled, stress relieved, and salt-bath nitrided. Each barrel is 100% magnetic-particle inspected, air-gauged, and headspace checked before it ships. Faxon’s 4150 CMV Duty Series is the hard-use option; the Match Series is the one to reach for when consistency shot to shot is the point.

Why does 338 ARC need a special upper receiver?

338 ARC uses a larger-diameter case and bullet than 5.56, and standard M4 feed ramps are cut for 5.56. This upper uses the Faxon 338 ARC Enhanced Forged upper, whose ramps are cut for the 338 ARC case to feed subsonic and supersonic loads reliably.

What bolt and magazines does it use?

A Type 2 (.136″) Grendel/ARC bolt face — the installed Faxon 6.5 Grendel/ARC Lightweight BCG is correct. For magazines, Faxon recommends Duramag magazines designed for 400 Legend; some loads, such as Hornady Sub-X, can be finicky to feed.

Why a 1:5 twist?

338 ARC’s best subsonic loads use long, heavy bullets, and long bullets need fast spin to stay stable. 1:5 stabilizes them from a 9″ barrel.

How does the adjustable gas block work?

The Faxon patented adjustable .750″ low-profile block has 14 tactile settings from fully open to fully closed, set with a 3/32″ hex key or a flat screwdriver. Close it down for suppressed or to soften recoil; open it up for unsuppressed or low-powered loads.

How does the Plan B flash hider mount a suppressor?

The MuzzLok® Plan B flash hider threads onto the 5/8x24 muzzle and is timed with a left-hand nut, so it comes off without shims or crush washers. Behind the tines is a 29/32-24 Plan B interface that a suppressor with a Plan B-compatible mount threads onto. It is rated for .338 and smaller bores.

Can I put it on a rifle lower?

Only if that lower is registered as a short-barreled rifle. A 9″ barrel on a lower with a stock is an SBR under the National Firearms Act. On a pistol lower it builds an AR pistol. Check your state and local law.

Is the bolt carrier group and charging handle included?

Yes. The Faxon Superfinished 6.5 Grendel/ARC Gunner Lightweight Type 2 BCG (.136″), nitride, and the Faxon Edition Breek® Sledgehammer ambidextrous gas-blocking charging handle are installed.

Where is it made, and what is the warranty?

The barrel is made in Faxon’s Greater Cincinnati, Ohio plant, and the upper is assembled there. It is covered by the Faxon Lifetime Guarantee.
