The standard A2 grip has a pronounced rearward rake that angles the grip significantly away from vertical. This geometry was inherited from early AR designs and works adequately for basic function, but it places many shooters’ wrists in a downward-cocked position that reduces trigger finger reach and creates forearm tension during sustained shooting. A reduced grip angle moves the grip geometry closer to vertical — more like a pistol grip on a handgun — which puts the wrist in a more neutral, straight-line position. For most shooters, this means less fatigue, better trigger control, and a more consistent grip between shooting sessions and across different body positions.

All three are BCM Gunfighter grips with a reduced grip angle, but they differ in body size and profile. The Mod 0 is the slimmest option, closest in body width to a standard A2 grip but with BCM’s ergonomic angle improvements. The Mod 1 has a slightly fuller body. The Mod 3 is the widest and most substantial of the three — it features a larger grip circumference, the high-rise beavertail backstrap, and the extended forward tang that the slimmer models do not have. Shooters with larger hands or who prefer a fuller grip typically find the Mod 3 the most comfortable option in the lineup.

A beavertail backstrap is the upward-curved extension at the top rear of the grip that covers the web of the shooting hand. On the Mod 3, the high-rise beavertail serves two purposes: it protects the web of the hand from contact with the lower receiver’s sharp edges or bolt carrier group movement during cycling, and it fills the space between the web of the hand and the top of the grip body. This gives the hand a more complete, consistent high-grip purchase on the rifle — the hand sits higher on the grip, which generally improves control and reduces muzzle rise during recoil.

The internal compartment in the Mod 3 is sized for small field supplies — common uses include spare batteries (CR123A, AA, or similar), a folded emergency note, a small amount of cash, a multi-tool bit, or a firing pin. The water-resistant rubber gasket on the hinged trap door keeps the contents dry in rain and wet environments. The compartment is not large enough for most multi-tools or anything with significant bulk, but for small items that you want on the rifle at all times, it is a genuinely useful feature that does not add external snag points or bulk to the grip profile.

The Mod 3 is designed for mil-spec AR-15 and AR-308 lower receivers with a standard grip screw pocket. This covers the vast majority of AR-pattern lowers on the market. If your lower uses a non-standard grip attachment geometry — which is uncommon but exists on some budget or proprietary designs — verify the grip screw thread and pocket dimensions before ordering. Installation is straightforward: remove the existing grip screw and grip, seat the Mod 3 over the grip peg, and reinstall the screw. No modification required for standard mil-spec lowers.
