BURRIS VERACITY 2.5-12x42mm FFP RIFLE SCOPE — PLEX / CAPPED 1/2 MOA / 30mm
The Burris Veracity 2.5-12x42mm FFP Plex (200671) is a non-illuminated first focal plane hunting scope built around simplicity, compactness, and field reliability. The classic Plex reticle in FFP provides accurate subtensions across the full 2.5–12x magnification range for intuitive holdovers and aiming without the complexity of a dense precision grid or electronics. Capped elevation and windage turrets click in 1/2 MOA increments and stay protected under caps for field use — set at the range, left alone in the field. Parallax is fixed at 100 yards, eliminating a control to manage on the shot.
At 25.2 oz and 12 inches on a 30mm platform, the 200671 is the lightest and most compact Veracity in the lineup — well-suited to hunters who carry their rifle all day and want a capable optic that adds minimal weight and bulk. The 42mm objective delivers a 16.8mm exit pupil at 2.5x, one of the largest exit pupils available at any magnification in a hunting scope, producing an exceptionally bright and forgiving sight picture in low-light conditions without requiring illumination. At $899.99 with fully multi-coated lenses and no battery dependency, the 200671 is a hunter’s scope in its purest form: set it, zero it, use it.
The Plex is a traditional four-post reticle: thick outer posts tapering to a fine center crosshair. In first focal plane, the Plex and its subtensions scale with the target image at every magnification from 2.5x to 12x. At 2.5x, the posts are proportionally fine for a clean close-range sight picture. At 12x, they frame the target with natural proportions. The FFP configuration means any holdover marks built into the Plex remain accurate across the power range — no magnification correction needed.
The 200671’s 42mm objective at 2.5x magnification delivers a 16.8mm exit pupil — the full unvignetted light cone from the scope’s exit. The human eye in full darkness can dilate to approximately 7mm; a 16.8mm exit pupil means the scope is gathering and transmitting more light than the eye can physically use. In practical terms, in any condition where there is enough ambient light to see the target, this scope is not limiting image brightness. This is where the 2.5x low end creates a genuine low-light advantage.
The 200671 uses capped elevation and windage turrets at 1/2 MOA per click. Caps protect the turret heads from accidental bumps in the field and signal the intended use: zero at the range, cap the turrets, and use the Plex reticle’s holdover points for field corrections rather than dialing turrets between shots. This is the traditional hunting scope configuration — reliable, snag-free, and appropriate for animals taken at typical hunting distances where holdovers are more practical than turret adjustments in the field.
The 200671 has parallax fixed at 100 yards, eliminating the side-focus adjustment dial found on the 3-15x44 models in this series. For hunting at typical distances — most deer, elk, and general game shots — 100-yard fixed parallax keeps the image in focus without any adjustment required. At very close range (under 25 yards) or extended distances well beyond 300 yards, some parallax error may be introduced; for these fringe-distance applications, a side-focus model may be preferable. Within the common hunting envelope, the fixed parallax is a simplification, not a limitation.

Capped turrets have protective caps that thread or snap over the adjustment heads. With the caps on, the turrets cannot be bumped out of zero by brush, a sling, or contact in the field. To adjust, remove the cap, make the change, and replace the cap. For most hunting applications — zeroed at 100 or 200 yards and using Plex holdovers for other distances — the turrets are set once and the caps stay on for the life of the season. If you anticipate regularly dialing turrets between shots, the open-target-style turrets of the 200682 or 200681 are better suited to that workflow.
The 200671’s 2.5x low power setting gives a 36-foot field of view at 100 yards — the widest in the Veracity lineup. At close range in thick cover, at driven hunts, or any scenario where a fast-moving target needs to be acquired quickly, the extra width at 2.5x compared to 3x or 5x is a genuine advantage. For western hunters who engage targets at all ranges from CQB to long distance, 2.5x provides the wide-view capability at the bottom end without sacrificing 12x reach at the top.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does this scope have capped turrets instead of exposed target knobs?
The 200671 is designed as a traditional hunting scope where the turrets are set at the range and left alone in the field. Capped turrets protect the adjustment heads from accidental movement during carry, in dense cover, or against a vehicle or pack frame. The hunting workflow with this scope is to zero at your chosen distance, cap the turrets, and use the Plex reticle’s holdover points to account for distance variation in the field. If your shooting involves regular turret adjustments between shots — such as long-range precision shooting where you dial for known distances — the 200682 (with open target-style turrets at 0.1 MOA per click) is a better fit. For traditional hunting where simplicity, snag-free operation, and zero-protection matter more than quick-dial access, the capped configuration of the 200671 is the appropriate design.
Is the fixed parallax at 100 yards a limitation?
For most hunting applications at typical engagement distances, no. Fixed 100-yard parallax means the scope is calibrated to be parallax-free at 100 yards — the target image and reticle appear in perfect alignment at that distance. At closer or farther distances, a small parallax error may exist, meaning the point of impact can shift slightly if your eye is not perfectly centered in the exit pupil. Within practical hunting ranges — roughly 50 to 300 yards for most game species — this error is generally within acceptable accuracy margins. For very close shots (inside 25 yards) or extended-range precision beyond 400 yards, adjustable parallax provides a technical advantage. For hunters who operate within the typical middle distance band, fixed parallax eliminates a control to manage and simplifies the scope.
How does the 1/2 MOA click compare to 1/4 MOA?
The 200671 uses 1/2 MOA (0.5 MOA) per click, twice as coarse as the 1/4 MOA standard on most target and hunting scopes. At 100 yards, each click moves the point of impact approximately 0.52 inches. For zeroing at the range, 1/2 MOA clicks require approximately half as many clicks to cover the same adjustment range — getting on paper and dialing to zero is fast. For field use where holdovers handle distance variation, click value is irrelevant once zero is set. The 1/2 MOA click is appropriate for a capped hunting scope where precise sub-quarter-MOA dialing resolution is not the design intent. It would be limiting in a precision application where you need to dial specific half-MOA corrections or finer; for that use, the 200682’s 0.1 MOA clicks or a 1/4 MOA target scope are better choices.
What mounts fit the Burris Veracity 200671?
The 200671 requires 30mm scope rings or a 30mm one-piece mount. At 12 inches in length and 25.2 oz, this is one of the most compact and lightweight 30mm scopes available in the Veracity series. The smaller 42mm objective compared to the 44mm and 50mm models may allow low-profile rings in some mounting configurations where the objective bell would otherwise require higher rings. Select height based on your barrel clearance requirements.
