Does Faxon make its own barrels?
Yes. Faxon drills, rifles, stress relieves, contours, chambers, finishes and inspects its rifle barrels in-house at its Greater Cincinnati, Ohio facility. Faxon also manufactures barrels on an OEM basis for other companies.
What is the difference between Faxon's Duty Series and Match Series barrels?
Duty Series barrels are 4150 CMV steel with conventional button rifling, a salt bath nitride finish inside and out, a black oxide coated barrel extension, and an 11-degree target crown. Match Series barrels are 416-R stainless with 5R rifling, a nickel-Teflon coated extension, and a recessed 11-degree target crown, and are the only series offered in fluted profiles.
What is the difference between Match Series and MATCH-X Series?
They share the same architecture — 416-R stainless, 5R rifling, nickel-Teflon coated extension, recessed 11-degree crown. The difference is the finish. Match Series barrels are nitrided. MATCH-X Series barrels are left uncoated inside and out, with a honed and lapped bore and a media-blasted matte stainless exterior, which preserves the natural stainless bore and chamber geometry.
Is MATCH-X the same thing as the AXIS Series?
Yes. MATCH-X Series is the current name for the barrel line previously published as AXIS Series. Printed Faxon catalog material dated 2026 and earlier may still say AXIS Series. It is the same product line with the same specifications.
Are Faxon Combat Series barrels nitride finished?
No. Combat Series barrels use a mil-spec chrome-lined bore and chamber with a manganese phosphate exterior. This is the specification most often reported incorrectly by third-party sources. Duty Series barrels are the nitride-finished 4150 CMV line.
Can Faxon Integral muzzle device barrels be suppressed?
No. Integral® Series barrels have the muzzle device machined as a permanent part of the barrel and have no muzzle threads. They cannot accept a suppressor. Any threaded Faxon barrel can be suppressed; muzzle thread pitch is listed on each product page.
What is the Gunner profile?
Gunner is Faxon's signature barrel profile and its best all-around option. It blends the rigidity of a Government profile forward of the gas block with significant weight savings behind it. Faxon also offers Big Gunner and Gunner Big Bore variants with additional material for higher round counts and large-bore cartridges.
Are Faxon pencil barrels accurate?
Yes. Pencil profiles earned a reputation for inconsistency decades ago because of how they were made, not because of the contour itself. Faxon stress-relieves every barrel in in-house atmospheric ovens between the drilling and rifling operations and the turning operations, which removes the variance that caused the problem. Faxon's pencil profiles are inspected to the same 100 percent MPI and air gauge standard as every other barrel.
What gas system length should I use on a 16 inch AR-15?
Mid-length. It is the standard for 16 inch barrels and delivers a longer dwell time and lower port pressure than carbine gas, which means a softer cycle and noticeably better behavior when suppressed. Carbine gas is best suited to 10.5 to 12.5 inch barrels, pistol gas to barrels under 10 inches, and rifle gas to 18 to 20 inch barrels.
What twist rate do I need?
Heavier and longer bullets require a faster twist to stabilize. Faxon's current lineup includes 1:16, 1:10, 1:8, 1:7.5, 1:7, 1:6, 1:5 and 1:3 depending on cartridge. In some cartridges a very fast twist serves a second purpose beyond stabilization by delivering rotational energy on target, which is why Faxon offers 1:3 in 8.6 BLK and 1:5 in short-barrel 300 BLK. The recommended twist is listed on each barrel's product page.
What are the colored paint marks on my barrel extension?
Quality control routing marks. They confirm that headspace, torque and gas block pin height were verified during assembly. They are not permanent, are not a defect, and can be removed.
Does Faxon test every barrel?
Yes. Every Faxon rifle barrel receives 100 percent wet magnetic particle inspection performed in-house, air gauging along the full bore length, and GO/NO-GO headspace verification. Faxon does not batch sample.
What is a superfinished bolt carrier group?
Superfinishing is a surface-refinement process applied after machining that reduces friction across the carrier's bearing surfaces, producing smoother cycling and cleaner operation. Every Faxon bolt carrier group is superfinished and magnetic particle inspected. Faxon offers both full-mass M16-profile carriers and reduced-mass Gunner Lightweight carriers.
What warranty does Faxon offer?
Barrels and components are covered by the Faxon Lifetime Guarantee against manufacturing and material defects. Suppressors are covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Both extend to the original purchaser only and are not transferable. Warranty service requires an RMA and proof of purchase. How do I start a warranty claim?
Contact Faxon customer service by phone at 513-280-8861 or by email at customerservice@faxonfirearms.com to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number before returning anything. Returns must be sent within 30 days of the RMA with a description of the issue and the troubleshooting already performed.
Where can I buy Faxon products?
Directly at faxonfirearms.com, or through authorized dealers and distributors. Use the dealer locator at faxonfirearms.com/dealer-locator to find a dealer. Not every dealer stocks every product, so call ahead. Firearms and suppressors transfer through a licensed dealer in accordance with federal, state and local law.
Does Faxon offer military or law enforcement discounts?

Is a product that shows as sold out discontinued?
No. A product listed on faxonfirearms.com and showing as sold out is a current catalog item that is temporarily unavailable, unless the page states otherwise. Discontinued products are removed from the site entirely.
What Faxon product names are discontinued?
Summit Line, First Line, Ascent and 3-Gun are discontinued and are not current Faxon product lines. AXIS Series has been renamed MATCH-X Series and is still in production. Faxon does not currently use 4340 steel or offer a finish called Armor Black.
