Barreled, Complete, or Suppressor Ready?
Faxon builds each upper in up to four configurations. A barreled upper has the receiver, barrel, gas system, handguard, and muzzle device installed, with no bolt carrier group or charging handle. A complete upper adds both, so it is ready to pin to a lower. Suppressor ready versions swap in a MuzzLok® Plan B compatible flash hider and, on gas guns, Faxon’s patented adjustable gas block, so a suppressor mounts with one adapter and the gas can be tuned to it. This one is the complete upper, suppressor ready.
What a 9mm Upper Needs
| Fires | 9mm Luger |
| Bolt | Gen 2 full-mass 9mm blowback BCG (Glock and Colt compatible) (included) |
| Magazines | Glock- or Colt-pattern 9mm magazines, matched to your 9mm lower |
| Lower | A dedicated 9mm AR lower, or a mag-well block, for Glock- or Colt-pattern magazines; Faxon’s forged AR-15 lowers are 5.56 pattern |
| Buffer | The 9mm buffer system your lower’s maker recommends (blowback uppers run heavier buffers) |
9mm AR uppers are blowback: no gas system, so the bolt carrier’s mass and the buffer do the work. Faxon’s barrel has the extension milled as one piece with the barrel and works with both Glock- and Colt-pattern magazines; the lower determines which you use.
Suppressor Ready, Explained
1. MOUNT
Thread a Plan B to HUB adapter (titanium, $95 or stainless, $65; extended versions too) onto the MuzzLok® flash hider. It converts the Plan B interface to the 1.375x24 HUB thread.
2. SUPPRESSOR
Thread on a HUB-mount suppressor rated for 9mm. See Faxon suppressors for current models and calibers.
3. RUN IT
A blowback 9mm has no gas to tune. If the suppressed rifle runs harder, the buffer your lower’s maker recommends for suppressed use is the adjustment.
Adjust with the rifle unloaded and the block cool. Suppressor purchase requirements are listed on each suppressor’s page; federal, state, and local laws apply.
How It’s Built and Inspected
| Barrel | 4150 CMV barrel, button rifled; Extension milled as one piece with the barrel, so there is nothing to torque; Salt-bath QPQ nitride inside and out; Works with Glock- and Colt-pattern 9mm lowers |
| Barrel inspection | Borescoped after reaming, rifling, and chambering; bore and groove air gauged; chamber checked on a CMM program first and last of every run; muzzle threads gauged; headspace gauged; 100% wet MPI |
| Upper receiver | 7075-T6 forging, Type III hard coat. Barrel threads gauged on every receiver, CMM checked every shift. Trued by Faxon, bore honed, tighter lug tolerance, engraved T-marks, skeletonized shell deflector. |
| Assembly | Assembled, inspected, and packed by Faxon in Greater Cincinnati, Ohio |
| Process control | Full CMM first-article inspection after any machine maintenance, tool change, or part change, and at least every 30 days; material certs checked at receiving; stress relief and nitride certified by lot |
Finish the Rifle
A 9mm blowback upper needs a 9mm AR lower, or a standard lower with a 9mm magazine block, set up for Glock- or Colt-pattern magazines. Faxon’s forged AR-15 lowers are 5.56 pattern. The Gen 2 9mm BCG installed on this upper works with both magazine patterns.

Duty Series 16″ 9mm Complete Upper, Suppressor Ready FAQs
What comes on this upper, and what doesn’t?
Included: Enhanced Forged AR-15 upper, 16″ Duty Series Light Taper 9mm barrel, 15″ Streamline aluminum M-LOK handguard, MuzzLok® Plan B compatible flash hider, Superfinished 9mm PCC blowback full-mass BCG, Gen 2, mil-spec AR-15 charging handle. Not included: lower receiver, suppressor, Plan B to HUB adapter, optic.
What’s the difference between a barreled upper and a complete upper?
A barreled upper has the receiver, barrel, gas system, handguard, and muzzle device installed but no bolt carrier group or charging handle. A complete upper includes both and is ready to pin to a lower. Suppressor-ready versions add a MuzzLok® Plan B compatible flash hider.
Will this upper fit my lower?
It needs a dedicated 9mm AR lower, or a mag-well block, for Glock- or Colt-pattern 9mm magazines. Standard 5.56 AR-15 lowers don’t feed 9mm magazines on their own.
Do I need to check headspace?
Every Faxon barrel is headspace gauged with GO/NO-GO gauges when the extension goes on, and the BCG installed is the one this upper ships with. Checking headspace with GO/NO-GO gauges for the bolt you run is always good practice, and it’s a must any time you swap in a different bolt.
What bolt and magazines does a 9mm upper use?
Bolt: Gen 2 full-mass 9mm blowback BCG (Glock and Colt compatible) (installed). Magazines: Glock- or Colt-pattern 9mm magazines, matched to your 9mm lower.
What ammunition does it shoot?
9mm Luger. 115, 124, and 147 gr 9mm loads, including hollow points.
What do I need to mount a suppressor?
A Plan B to HUB adapter (titanium $95 or stainless $65, standard or extended) and a 9mm HUB-mount suppressor rated for 9mm.
What makes a good AR-15 upper, and how does this one compare?
Start with the barrel: steel, rifling, finish, and inspection. This one is 4150 CMV, button rifled, QPQ nitrided, borescoped, air gauged, headspace gauged, and 100% MPI inspected. Then a forged 7075-T6 receiver, a gas system matched to the barrel length (blowback on 9mm), a free-float M-LOK handguard, and, on a complete upper, a quality BCG. Faxon makes the barrel, receiver, gas block, and muzzle device, and assembles the upper in Ohio under a Lifetime Guarantee.
Nitride or chrome lining: which is better?
Chrome lining still has its place, mainly sustained automatic fire. For the vast majority of shooters, Faxon’s salt-bath QPQ nitride does what they need and more: it hardens the bore and exterior, resists corrosion, adds virtually nothing to the dimensions (a few ten-thousandths of an inch, about a tenth the width of a human hair), and needs little to no break-in.
Does the upper ship to an FFL?
No. The upper isn’t the serialized part of an AR-15, so it doesn’t require an FFL. Faxon lowers do. State and local laws on barrel length, threaded barrels, and muzzle devices still apply.
Where is it made, and what is the warranty?
Faxon makes the barrel, receiver, and MuzzLok® devices in Greater Cincinnati, Ohio, and assembles the upper there. It’s covered by the Faxon Lifetime Guarantee.
