What Is the Limited Edition FF-22 Receiver Kit in Combat Grey Cerakote®?

The Limited Edition Faxon FF-22 Receiver Kit in Combat Grey Cerakote® is a billet-machined aftermarket receiver for the Ruger® 10/22® semi-automatic rimfire rifle, finished in Cerakote® H-130 Combat Grey rather than the standard black hardcoat anodize. The receiver is CNC-machined from a solid billet of 6061-T6 aluminum, is dimensionally identical to the standard FF-22 receiver, and is produced in a limited run. It is a serialized firearm and must be shipped to a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL).

The FF-22 is designed as a direct drop-in replacement for the factory Ruger 10/22 receiver (non-takedown models). It is compatible with all Ruger 10/22 OEM non-takedown components — bolt assemblies, triggers, trigger groups, charging handles, barrel assemblies, and stocks — as well as all Faxon Rimfire barrels for 10/22 and most aftermarket chassis systems, triggers, and internals built to the non-takedown 10/22 specification.

The kit includes the Combat Grey Cerakote® receiver, a chromoly steel V-block with V-block screws (which secure the barrel to the receiver), and a rubber bolt buffer. To complete a rifle build, you will also need a barrel, bolt assembly, trigger group, charging handle, and stock or chassis. Faxon offers the FF-22 Bolt Assembly and a full line of Rimfire Plinker and Match Series barrels designed to pair with this receiver.

Limited Edition Finish

About Combat Grey Cerakote®

Cerakote® is a thin-film ceramic-polymer coating used across the firearms industry for its abrasion, corrosion, chemical, and impact resistance. This receiver is coated in Cerakote® H-130 Combat Grey. It is a very dark charcoal grey with a flat matte finish and a slightly cool cast — much darker than our Battleship Grey, and only a step lighter than black. Against black furniture, a black bolt, and a black barrel it reads as a subtle, low-contrast tone-on-tone build that looks like a softer, matte black in most light; the grey becomes obvious next to a true black part or in direct sun. It also pairs cleanly with stainless, FDE, and OD green components.

Only the exterior finish changes. The receiver is machined, inspected, and engraved to the same drawing and the same MBR inspection protocol as the standard FF-22, then Cerakoted. The barrel channel bore, front ring OD, receiver width, cross-pin holes, and bolt raceway are unchanged, so every barrel, bolt, trigger group, and stock that fits the standard FF-22 fits this one.

This is a limited production run. Once the run sells out, the Combat Grey Cerakote® FF-22 will not be restocked as a catalog item. The standard black hardcoat anodize FF-22 remains in regular production.

A Note on Color

Combat Grey is darker than most people expect. Cerakote® H-130 Combat Grey is a deep charcoal, not a mid-tone grey. It is much darker than our Battleship Grey FF-22 and darker than Cerakote’s Sniper Grey (H-234) or Tactical Grey (H-227). Next to a black hardcoat anodized part it is clearly grey; on its own, in indoor light, it can read as a soft matte black. If you want a receiver that is obviously grey from across the room, choose the Battleship Grey edition. If you want a subtle, low-contrast alternative to black, this is it.

Photos are a reference, not a guarantee. Dark neutrals are hard to photograph and display accurately. Our product photos are shot under controlled studio lighting to show the grey; the same receiver will look lighter in direct sunlight, nearly black indoors, and slightly different on every phone, monitor, and TV — dark-mode screens and OLED displays in particular tend to crush it toward black. Minor shade variation between production batches is also normal for Cerakote®. Color variation is not a defect and is not covered as a warranty claim.

What’s Included

FF-22 Receiver — Combat Grey Cerakote®

6061-T6 billet aluminum, CNC-machined, limited edition Combat Grey Cerakote® finish. Integrated 0-MOA Picatinny rail with extended length. Serialized.

V-Block & Screws

Chromoly steel V-block with two #12-24 screws. Secures the barrel to the receiver in the standard 10/22 V-block configuration.

Rubber Bolt Buffer

Cushions bolt cycling for reduced wear and quieter operation. Installs in the rear of the receiver.

What You Still Need to Complete a Rifle Build

The FF-22 Receiver Kit is not a complete rifle. To build a functioning .22 LR rifle, you will also need a barrel, bolt assembly, trigger group (including hammer, sear, springs, pins, and trigger), charging handle, and a stock or chassis. Ruger® 10/22 OEM parts or compatible aftermarket components from Faxon and other manufacturers will work.

Engineering & Manufacturing

The FF-22 receiver is CNC-machined from a solid billet of 6061-T6 aluminum across three manufacturing operations. OP-10 saws the bar stock to rough dimensions (1.500" × 3.000" × 7.250"). OP-20 machines the Picatinny rail, outer profile, barrel channel, V-block screw holes, and cross-pin holes. OP-30 machines all interior features including the bolt raceway, ejection port, trigger group pocket, and engraving.

Critical dimensions are verified throughout production per Faxon’s MBR (Manufacturing Build Record) inspection protocol. The barrel channel bore (∅.687" +.002"/-.000"), front ring OD (∅.940" ±.005"), receiver width (.833" ±.002"), and cross-pin holes (∅.250" ±.005") are checked with Go/No-Go pin gages and micrometers at a frequency of 1-in-10 parts. V-block screw threads (2× #12-24) are verified 100% with Go/No-Go thread plugs. Interior features are measured with Sylvac instruments, height gages, and depth gages. A CMM dimensional verification runs once per shift, and a functional check with a master gage is performed on 1-in-10 parts (with 100% verification on critical assemblies).

The receiver is engraved on the left side with “FAXON FIREARMS / FAIRFIELD, OH, USA / FF-22 / 22LR” plus a unique serial number. Engraving depth is .010" ±.005" per ATF requirements. The limited edition receiver is then finished in Cerakote® H-130 Combat Grey, a ceramic-polymer coating chosen for durability, corrosion resistance, and color consistency across the run.

Barrel Installation & Thermal Fit

The FF-22 receiver’s barrel channel is machined to a tight tolerance (∅.687" +.002"/-.000") to prevent barrel droop — a common accuracy issue on the 10/22 platform where a loose barrel-to-receiver fit allows the barrel to sag under its own weight. Because of this intentionally tight fit, some barrels may require a thermal fit for installation.

To thermal fit a barrel, heat the front ring of the receiver with a heat gun or hair dryer for 30–60 seconds. The aluminum receiver will expand slightly, allowing the barrel shank to slide in. Once the receiver cools, it contracts around the barrel for a secure, concentric fit that eliminates play between the barrel and receiver. This is normal and by design — it is the same technique used on many precision 10/22 builds. The brief, low heat from a heat gun or hair dryer will not affect the Cerakote® finish; avoid open flame or torches.

If you are installing a Faxon Rimfire barrel, the barrel shank is ground to match the FF-22’s barrel channel. Aftermarket barrels from other manufacturers may vary slightly in shank diameter; a thermal fit will accommodate minor variations. The V-block and screws then lock the barrel in position.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Limited Edition FF-22 Receiver Kit in Combat Grey Cerakote®?

It is the Faxon FF-22 billet 6061-T6 aluminum receiver for the Ruger 10/22 rimfire rifle platform, finished in Combat Grey Cerakote® instead of black hardcoat anodize and produced in a limited run. The kit includes the receiver with an integrated 0-MOA Picatinny rail, a chromoly steel V-block with screws, and a rubber bolt buffer. It is a serialized firearm and must be shipped to an FFL dealer.

Is the Combat Grey version any different from the standard FF-22?

Only the exterior finish. The Combat Grey Cerakote® receiver is machined to the same drawing, inspected to the same MBR protocol, and ships with the same V-block, screws, and bolt buffer as the standard black FF-22. Every barrel, bolt, trigger group, charging handle, and stock that fits the standard FF-22 fits the FDE version.

What is Cerakote®?

Cerakote® is a thin-film ceramic-polymer coating widely used on firearms for abrasion, corrosion, chemical, and impact resistance. It is applied as a liquid, then cured, and is available in a wide range of colors. This receiver uses Cerakote® H-130 Combat Grey, a very dark charcoal grey with a flat matte finish. It is much darker than Battleship Grey and only a step lighter than black, so it gives a subtle tone-on-tone look against black parts and pairs cleanly with stainless, FDE, and OD green.

Which grey is this? How does it compare to Battleship Grey?

This receiver is coated in Cerakote® H-130 Combat Grey, a deep charcoal. The Battleship Grey FF-22 is a light, cool grey — the two are at opposite ends of the grey range. Combat Grey is also darker than Cerakote’s Sniper Grey (H-234) and Tactical Grey (H-227). If you have other parts coated to match, specify H-130. Grey polymer furniture from other brands (Magpul® Stealth Gray, for example) is a different shade and will be close but not identical.

Why does Combat Grey look almost black in some photos?

Because it nearly is. H-130 is a deep charcoal that sits one step above black. It looks lighter in direct sunlight, nearly black under indoor light, and darker still on dark-mode or OLED screens. Our photos are shot under controlled studio lighting to show the grey as clearly as possible. Minor batch-to-batch shade variation is also normal for Cerakote®. Color variation is not a defect.

How many Combat Grey FF-22 receivers are being made, and will they be restocked?

This is a limited production run. Once it sells out it will not be restocked as a catalog item. If you want one, order while the page shows in stock. The standard black hardcoat anodize FF-22 remains in regular production.

Is the FF-22 compatible with my Ruger 10/22?

The FF-22 is compatible with all Ruger 10/22 non-takedown OEM components including bolt assemblies, trigger groups, barrels, charging handles, and stocks. It is not compatible with Ruger 10/22 Takedown models. It is also compatible with most aftermarket 10/22 components designed for the standard non-takedown receiver.

What do I need to complete a rifle build with the FF-22?

You need a .22 LR barrel (Faxon Rimfire or compatible 10/22 barrel), a bolt assembly (Faxon FF-22 Bolt or Ruger OEM), a complete trigger group (with hammer, sear, springs, and pins), a charging handle, and a stock or chassis. Ruger OEM parts or compatible aftermarket components will work.

Why does the FF-22 need to ship to an FFL?

Under federal law, the receiver of a firearm is the serialized, regulated component. Because the FF-22 receiver is serialized and legally classified as a firearm, it must be shipped to a licensed Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) dealer for transfer. You will need to provide your FFL dealer’s information during checkout and complete the required paperwork (Form 4473) at the FFL to take possession.

What barrels work with the FF-22?

The FF-22 accepts all Faxon Rimfire barrels for 10/22 (Plinker Series and Match Series), Ruger OEM 10/22 barrels, and most aftermarket 10/22 barrels that use the standard V-block barrel attachment system. The barrel channel is bored to .687 inches. Faxon offers barrels in Flame Fluted, Straight Fluted, Pencil, and Bull profiles from 10 to 18 inches.

Do I need to thermal fit the barrel, and will heat hurt the Cerakote®?

You may need to thermal fit. The FF-22’s barrel channel is machined to a tight tolerance (.687 inches +.002/-.000) to prevent barrel droop. If the barrel does not slide in by hand, heat the front ring of the receiver with a heat gun or hair dryer for 30 to 60 seconds, then insert the barrel. The brief, low heat from a heat gun or hair dryer will not affect the Cerakote® finish. Do not use an open flame or torch.

Does the FF-22 include a scope rail?

Yes. The FF-22 has an integrated 0-MOA Picatinny rail machined directly into the top of the receiver. The rail is longer than the factory 10/22 rail, providing more mounting options for scopes, red dots, and other optics. No separate scope base or adapter is needed.

Does the FF-22 work with 10/22 Takedown models?

No. The FF-22 is compatible with standard (non-takedown) 10/22 components only. It does not support the barrel-to-receiver locking mechanism used in Ruger 10/22 Takedown models.

Can I suppress my FF-22 build?

Yes. Every Faxon Rimfire barrel for the 10/22 platform ships threaded 1/2x28, so no adapter or additional threading is needed. The Faxon Twenty-Toucan® is a modular .22 LR suppressor with six tunable baffles in 17-4 PH stainless steel. It is full-auto rated for .22 LR, .22 Mag, .17 HMR, and 5.7x28mm, and measured hearing-safe at 131.95 dB at the muzzle during the 2025 Silencer Summit. A suppressor is an NFA item — you will need to submit an eForm 4 through your dealer. The $200 NFA tax stamp fee has been eliminated.

Where is the FF-22 receiver made?

The FF-22 receiver is designed and manufactured by Faxon Firearms at their facility in Fairfield, Ohio, USA. Faxon is an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer and a federally licensed firearms manufacturer (FFL). All FF-22 receivers, including limited edition finishes, are covered by Faxon’s Lifetime Guarantee.
