FAXON FX7 PREFIT M24 PROFILE 26" 6GT BOLT ACTION BARREL
FaxonDescription
Rifle Barrels › Bolt Action Barrels › FX7 Prefit Barrels › 26″ M24 6GT | Works with: FX7 action • FX7 action wrench • .30 suppressors • 5/8x24 hub adapter
How the FX7 Prefit Works
A prefit barrel has its shoulder and chamber machined so that it headspaces correctly when it is torqued against a specific action. Faxon cuts this barrel’s shouldered 1.0625-16 tenon and chamber to headspace on the Faxon FX7 short action, so you do not need a lathe or a gunsmith to cut a chamber. Clamp the barrel in a barrel vise, turn the action onto it with the Faxon FX7 action wrench, torque it, and check headspace with GO and NO-GO gauges before you fire it.
FX7 Prefit barrels are made for the Faxon FX7 action only. Other Remington 700®-pattern actions vary in how far the bolt face sits from the receiver face, so a prefit cut for the FX7 will not reliably headspace on them. For a Remington 700® or a clone, choose a RemAge® barrel, which sets headspace with a nut.
6GT, 1:7.5 Twist
The 6GT was designed for precision rifle competition: a short, efficient case that feeds smoothly, runs 105 to 115 gr 6mm bullets with very little recoil, and is easy on barrels. The 1:7.5 twist is built for those long, high-BC 6mm bullets.
The M24 Profile at 26″
The M24 is a heavy tactical contour modeled on the classic military sniper profile. It is stiff, slow to heat, and steady from a bag or barricade, which makes it the choice for precision rifle matches and long strings at the range.
How It’s Made
- Drill and ream: 416-R stainless bar gun-drilled and reamed
- Hone: Bore honed to a fine finish before rifling
- Button rifle: 5R button rifled, 1:7.5 twist
- Air gauge: Bore air gauged
- Stress relieve: Stress relieved after rifling
- Profile and thread: M24 profile turned, 1.0625-16 UNEF tenon and 5/8x24 muzzle threads cut, target crown
- Chamber: 6GT chamber cut and headspaced to the FX7
- Lap: Bore lapped after chambering
- MPI and nitride: 100% wet magnetic particle inspected, then salt-bath QPQ nitrided inside and out
- Engrave and inspect: Laser-engraved with the cartridge and twist, then final inspected
Salt-bath QPQ nitride is a diffusion treatment, not a plating. It hardens the bore and exterior and adds corrosion resistance while adding virtually nothing to the dimensions, a few ten-thousandths of an inch, roughly a tenth the width of a human hair. It needs little to no break-in.
How We Inspect It
Faxon barrels are built to a written control plan, and each run is logged on inspection sheets. Here is what this barrel goes through before it ships.
| Borescope | Every barrel borescoped after rifling, checking for tearing and sharp rifling corners |
| Air gauge | Bore and groove diameters air gauged at several points along the bore; twist rate and groove count verified |
| Chamber | Checked on the CMM against a dedicated chamber program for the cartridge, first and last barrel of every run |
| Threads | Every muzzle thread and every tenon thread gauged |
| Magnetic particle | Every barrel, 100% wet magnetic particle inspected for flaws |
| First article | Full CMM first-article inspection after any machine maintenance, tool change, or part change, and at least every 30 days |
| Certifications | Material certs checked at receiving; stress relief and nitride certified by lot |

FX7 Prefit 26″ M24 6GT FAQs
What actions does this barrel fit?
The Faxon FX7 short action only. The shouldered tenon and chamber are cut to headspace on the FX7. For a Remington 700® or a 700 clone, choose a Faxon RemAge® barrel, which sets headspace with a nut.
Do I need a gunsmith to install it?
No lathe work is needed. Clamp the barrel in a barrel vise, turn the FX7 action on with the Faxon FX7 action wrench, torque it, and verify headspace with GO and NO-GO gauges before firing. If you are not comfortable doing that, have a gunsmith install it.
What comes in the box?
The barrel and thread protector.
Why 416-R stainless and 5R rifling?
416-R machines cleanly and holds a consistent bore. 5R rifling uses five lands with sloped sides instead of sharp corners, which deforms the bullet less and fouls less. Faxon hones the bore before rifling and laps it after chambering for a smooth, consistent finish.
Does a nitrided barrel need break-in?
Little to no break-in. Salt-bath QPQ nitride hardens the bore and resists corrosion and fouling while adding virtually nothing to its dimensions.
Can I run a suppressor?
Yes. The muzzle is threaded 5/8x24. Use a .30 caliber or larger suppressor and confirm alignment before firing.
Where is it made?
In Greater Cincinnati, Ohio, and it is covered by the Faxon Lifetime Guarantee.
