How a RemAge® Barrel Works

A traditional Remington 700® barrel is chambered and shouldered on a lathe to fit one specific action. A RemAge®-style barrel replaces the machined shoulder with a barrel nut, the way Savage® barrels have always worked. Thread the barrel into the action until a GO gauge just closes the bolt, snug the nut against the receiver to lock it there, and check with a NO-GO gauge. The included RemAge® barrel nut is tightened with a standard AR-15 armorer’s (castle nut) wrench.

RemAge® barrels fit factory Remington 700® short actions and similar 700-pattern short actions, and Faxon RemAge® barrels made since December 2023 also fit the Faxon FX7. Because the nut sets headspace, the same barrel works across actions whose bolt-face depth varies.

6.5 Creedmoor, 1:8 Twist

6.5 Creedmoor pairs long, high-BC 6.5mm bullets with a short-action case, so it carries energy and bucks wind at distance with mild recoil. The 1:8 twist is the standard for 6.5 Creedmoor and stabilizes the common 120 to 147 gr bullets.

The M24 Profile at 24″

The M24 is a heavy tactical contour modeled on the classic military sniper profile. It is stiff, slow to heat, and steady from a bag or barricade, which makes it the choice for precision rifle matches and long strings at the range.

How It’s Made

1. Drill and ream: 416-R stainless bar gun-drilled and reamed
2. Hone: Bore honed to a fine finish before rifling
3. Button rifle: 5R button rifled, 1:8 twist
4. Air gauge: Bore air gauged
5. Stress relieve: Stress relieved after rifling
6. Profile and thread: M24 profile turned, 1.0625-16 UNEF tenon and 5/8x24 muzzle threads cut, target crown
7. Chamber: 6.5 Creedmoor chamber cut
8. Lap: Bore lapped after chambering
9. MPI and nitride: 100% wet magnetic particle inspected, then salt-bath QPQ nitrided inside and out
10. Engrave and inspect: Laser-engraved with the cartridge and twist, then final inspected

Salt-bath QPQ nitride is a diffusion treatment, not a plating. It hardens the bore and exterior and adds corrosion resistance while adding virtually nothing to the dimensions, a few ten-thousandths of an inch, roughly a tenth the width of a human hair. It needs little to no break-in.

What is a RemAge® barrel?

A Remington 700®-pattern barrel that uses a barrel nut to set headspace instead of a machined shoulder. You thread it in to a GO gauge and lock the nut, so you can install it without a lathe.

What actions does it fit?

Factory Remington 700® short actions and similar 700-pattern short actions, plus the Faxon FX7 (on RemAge® barrels made since December 2023).

What tools do I need?

A barrel vise, an action wrench for your receiver, an AR-15 armorer’s (castle nut) wrench for the RemAge® nut, and GO/NO-GO headspace gauges for the cartridge.

What comes in the box?

The barrel and RemAge® barrel nut and thread protector.

Why 416-R stainless and 5R rifling?

416-R machines cleanly and holds a consistent bore. 5R rifling uses five lands with sloped sides instead of sharp corners, which deforms the bullet less and fouls less. Faxon hones the bore before rifling and laps it after chambering for a smooth, consistent finish.

Does a nitrided barrel need break-in?

Little to no break-in. Salt-bath QPQ nitride hardens the bore and resists corrosion and fouling while adding virtually nothing to its dimensions.

Can I run a suppressor?

Yes. The muzzle is threaded 5/8x24. Use a .30 caliber or larger suppressor and confirm alignment before firing.
