FAXON EXOS-553 PISTOL COMPENSATOR FOR GLOCK® GEN 5 - 9MM
FaxonDescription
What the EXOS-553 Does
A pistol compensator threads onto the muzzle and redirects propellant gas as it leaves the bore. Because the bore of a Glock® sits above your hand, recoil rotates the muzzle upward — muzzle flip. The EXOS-553 uses that same gas to push the muzzle back down, so the sights settle faster and follow-up shots come sooner. It does not reduce the cartridge’s total recoil energy; it changes the direction the muzzle moves.
EXOS® does this with a single expansion chamber and three ports angled at 45°. Straight-up ports only act on gas after it has left the bore axis; the angled EXOS ports catch it earlier and vector it up and forward, so more of the available energy goes into counteracting flip. A single chamber keeps the comp short and light, which matters on a carry or duty pistol where a long, heavy comp changes how the slide cycles.
The 553 shares its porting and internal design with the Gen 3 EXOS-513 and Gen 4 EXOS-543. What changes is the body: the rear of the comp is profiled to the Gen 5 slide nose so it mates cleanly and sits flush on a Faxon threaded barrel, and the bore and guide-rod relief are cut for Gen 5 barrel and recoil-assembly dimensions.

Requires a 1/2x28 threaded barrel. The EXOS-553 is dimensioned around Faxon’s Gen 5 threaded barrels, where it sits flush with the slide. On other 1/2x28 barrels it will function normally; a muzzle protrusion of 0.600″ or less keeps the flush look.
Fitment on other Gen 5-pattern 9mm pistols (e.g., the 45 or 47) has not been verified and is at the owner’s discretion.
Tested Performance
Faxon measured the double-stack Glock® EXOS® in a Ransom rest on a Glock® 19, firing 115 gr 9mm and recording the muzzle’s peak upward rotation in degrees with a bare threaded barrel and with the comp installed. Leading aftermarket compensators were run on the same host under the same conditions.

Test host was a Gen 3 Glock® 19 with the EXOS-513; the EXOS-553 uses identical porting and chamber geometry with a Gen 5 body profile. Results vary with ammunition, recoil spring, and grip.
Installation
1. Unload and field-strip the pistol. Clean the barrel threads and the comp bore.
2. Apply the included thread locker to the barrel’s muzzle threads. Thread the comp on by hand until it seats, then back off just enough to point the ports straight up (12 o’clock).
3. Snug the two 6-32 set screws with the 1/16″ wrench to index the comp. No thread locker on the set screws; do not over-torque into the aluminum body.
4. Reassemble. Cycle the slide by hand to confirm the comp clears the guide rod and the slide returns fully to battery, then confirm function with your carry or range ammunition.
Built as a pair
Pair It With a Faxon Gen 5 Threaded Barrel
The EXOS-553 is dimensioned around Faxon’s threaded Glock® barrels, where the thread shoulder position and muzzle protrusion let the comp sit flush with the slide with no gap and no overhang. Faxon Glock® barrels come in two lines — Match Series in 416-R stainless and Duty Series in 4150 CMV — both threaded 1/2x28.
EXOS-553 FAQs
Which pistols does the EXOS-553 fit?
Glock® 17, 19, and 34 Gen 5 with a 1/2x28 threaded barrel. It was engineered and function-tested on all three. Gen 3 and FX-19 pistols use the EXOS-513; Gen 4 pistols use the EXOS-543; the 43, 43X, and 48 use the EXOS-523 and EXOS-533.
How much does it reduce muzzle flip?
In Faxon’s Ransom-rest testing on a Glock® 19 with 115 gr 9mm, the double-stack EXOS® reduced peak muzzle rise by 28% versus a bare threaded barrel, the lowest rise of every compensator in the test and the tightest shot-to-shot spread. The EXOS-553 uses the same porting; only the body profile is Gen 5-specific.
What is the difference between the EXOS-513, 543, and 553?
Porting, chamber, and internal design are identical. The body profile is different on each so the rear of the comp mates to that generation’s slide and sits flush. Match the model to your generation: 513 for Gen 3 and FX-19, 543 for Gen 4, 553 for Gen 5.
Will it sit flush with my slide?
On a Faxon Gen 5 threaded barrel, yes. On other 1/2x28 barrels, it sits flush when the muzzle protrudes 0.600″ or less past the slide; with more protrusion it still works but stands off from the slide.
Do I need a different recoil spring?
Usually not with standard-pressure or +P ammunition. A compensator bleeds off gas that would otherwise help drive the slide, so very light target loads can occasionally fail to lock the slide back on the last round. Step up to a standard 115–124 gr load first; a slightly lighter recoil spring is the next option for shooters who run light loads exclusively.
Will my holster still fit?
Installed, the EXOS-553 adds 1.125″ ahead of the slide. Open-bottom holsters generally work as-is; closed-toe holsters need to be cut for a compensator, and most holster makers offer a comp option for the Gen 5 17, 19, and 34.
Does it work with a red dot or suppressor-height sights?
Yes. The single-chamber body keeps a low profile above the bore, so it does not block standard-height sights or a slide-mounted optic. The ports vent upward, so expect some visible gas in the sight picture on bright days, which is normal for any top-ported comp.
Where is the EXOS-553 made?
Machined from 6061 aluminum and black anodized in the USA by Faxon Firearms, a family-owned, federally licensed manufacturer in Greater Cincinnati, Ohio. Covered by the Faxon Lifetime Guarantee.

Pleasantly surprised
I bought the Faxon Glock 34 threaded barrel and the EXOS Comp. The compensator does a great job of cutting the already low recoil of the Glock 34 and the barrel is as accurate as the Glock factory barrel. I have zero complaints about both of these products, especially for the price compared to other products.

Gen 5 comp
Got it on sale and there's not anything better you can get for the price. Be cool if they made the same one just a little more compact, about 2/3rds the length.

Excellent Comp. I did need a 13lb spring to run reliability, but no big deal
