The Gunner profile is a blend of two of the best performing profiles of all time, Gov't and Pencil. Faxon's Gunner profile combines the durability of the Gov't profile with the weight savings and maneuverability of the Pencil profile. The Gunner profile brings the balance of the rifle back towards the shooter's body, limiting fatigue, and allowing for shooting, training, or hunting all day long.

Faxon Firearms barrels are the pinnacle of value. Manufactured in-house in Cincinnati, Ohio, Faxon barrels are fully stress relieved, air-gauge tested, and 11 degree target crowned to ensure superior accuracy. Quality is imbued into our barrels from the beginning of the manufacturing process.. We start with the best materials, either certified 4150 Mil-Spec steel or 416-R Stainless. From there, each barrel goes through a battery of tests at each operation until finished in Nitride and final inspected. All barrels are individually checked for headspace with precision PTG gauges.

    Excellent

I have owned this for around 3 years as of the time of this review. This barrel was my second Faxon barrel and II am very happy with it. Much like my other barrels from Faxon, this barrel is very handy and accurate and makes for an excellent build. I highly recommend this barrel!

    14 in. Gunner Barrel

This thing is fantastic. 1in. Groupings at 100 yards. Excellent fit and finish. I would highly recommend if you are looking to build a shorter barreled rifle. This will go on many of my builds for my customers. They love it and so do I.

    Amazing Barrel

Great manufacturing on the barrel fit and finish. Bought the serialized matching BCG which also has an awesome QPQ finish on it. Finished the build went to the range to sight it in, took 9 round to get it zeroed in and had a nickel sized group with 55 grain X193 ammo. Liked it so much ordered another barrel (government model) and BCG for another build

    14.5" GUNNER, 5.56 NATO, Mid-Length, 4150 QPQ

I was in the process of building an new AR and wanted a lightweight barrel. I queried the internet and came across Faxon's website. I compared Faxon's 16" Pencil Barrel to almost every barrel on the internet and found that this was a truly lightweight barrel weighing in at only 1.2 lbs. In comparison to another major manufacturer's 1.7 lb lightweight barrel this was truly light. I ended up though settling on the 14.5" GUNNER barrel which also weighed 1.2 lbs. I went with the GUNNER so i could keep the gun more compact. A 16" barrel with a muzzle device can end up measuring more than 18". The barrel came packaged very wel in a ziplock type bag in a hard cardboard tube. I also order the .625" gas block and mid-length gas tube. All of the items were packaged well and fit in the tube nicely. Closed cell foam blocks were on each end to keep everything tight. I inspected the barrel and found it to be very well made with no visible tool marks, even coloring along the barrel, and nicely balanced. The gas block and gas tube were as expected and in very good condition. The barrel fit snug in my Anderson upper receiver with no play. I mated the barrel to the gun with a UTG PRO M-LOK™ M&P10 13" Super Slim Free Float Handguard that weighs only 14.5 ounces. The goal for this build was to make it lightweight and free from all of the unnecessary trappings of an AR build that most people put on a gun they will hardly ever fire. After the build was complete I went out to the range to test fire the gun to break the barrel in and to get it sighted in. I followed Faxon's online instructions for the barrel break-in and found the barrel tolerances to be nice and tight. Cleaning my duty rifle and cleaning this rifle was quite different. With my commercially made duty rifle a bore brush barely seems to make contact with the inside of the barrel. Running the bore brush through my Faxon GUNNER barrel was much different. The brush made very positive contact with the sides of the barrel and there was resistance all the way through the barrel. After following the proper break-in procedures I sighted in the rifle. After sighting the rifle groups were very nice. I was not using a bench rest and at 50 yards I was getting 1.5" groups with iron sights. I am confident that if I was using a red dot optic or a scope that I could get the groups under 1". I was so impressed with my Faxon 14.5" GUNNER barrel that I went ahead and ordered the 16" Pencil barrel for another build. Thank you Faxon for supporting LEO's.

14.5" Gunner is perfect for lightweight builds. Both builds under 5 lbs. and function perfectly with outstanding accuracy.

    Price Point, Quality, Handling

Posted by Dustin on Jul 28th 2016

This is my 3rd Faxon barrel. Accuracy: Good to excellent depending on ammo. Cheap ammo around 2". Hunting and target ammo around 1". 100yd groups, 1-4power scope. Handling: The weight distribution of this barrel, plus a lightweight handguard, make it handle like a dream. Quality: It's an attractive and well finished product. No issues during assembly. The fit to my aero upper was nice and snug.
