Faxon Match Series — 16" Heavy Fluted .223 Wylde AR-15 Barrel (Mid-Length Gas)

416R Stainless • 5R Rifling • Heavy Fluted Profile • Nickel Teflon M4 Extension • Nitride Inside & Out

The Faxon Match Series 16" Heavy Fluted .223 Wylde is built for shooters who want maximum stability and heat management without giving up balance. Deep heavy flutes shave weight, increase surface area for cooling, and add rigidity for consistent groups over long strings of fire.

Starting with 416R stainless steel and 5R button rifling (1:8 twist), the bore is salt bath nitrided inside & out for superior wear and corrosion resistance. Every Match barrel is stress relieved, air-gauge tested, MPI-inspected, and headspace verified. The M4 barrel extension receives a Nickel Teflon coating for slick feeding and a tighter extension-to-receiver fit.

Key Benefits

  • Heavy Fluted profile: Added rigidity and improved cooling with reduced weight versus full HBAR.
  • .223 Wylde chamber: Match accuracy with .223 Rem and safe compatibility with 5.56 NATO.
  • Match-grade construction: 416R stainless, 5R rifling, 1:8 twist for broad bullet weight coverage.
  • Nitride finish: Treated inside & out for fouling resistance and long service life.
  • Nickel Teflon M4 extension: Enhanced lubricity and tightened receiver fit for consistency.
  • Rigorous QC: Stress relieved, air-gauge tested, MPI, and headspace checked in-house.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose a Heavy Fluted profile?
It adds stiffness for consistency, increases cooling surface area, and trims weight compared to straight heavy barrels.
What’s the benefit of .223 Wylde?
.223 Wylde offers tighter freebore for accuracy with .223 Rem while safely accommodating 5.56 NATO pressures.
Is stainless really nitride treated?
Yes—our 416R stainless Match barrels are salt bath nitrided inside and out to extend life and resist corrosion.

Overview: 16" Match Series Heavy Fluted .223 Wylde Barrel

The Faxon Match Series 16" Heavy Fluted .223 Wylde is a stability-focused, match-grade barrel engineered for repeatable accuracy. Made from 416R stainless with 5R rifling and a Nickel Teflon–coated M4 extension, it feeds smoothly, resists fouling, and maintains precision through heat. Outstanding Quality and Value

Upon opening the packaging, I could immediately notice the attention to detail that went into the manufacturing of this barrel. There are no imperfections in the rifling, crowning, chamber or finish whatsoever. Even during break-in the barrel cycled every variety of .223 and 5.56 I put through it. This is definitely capable of sub MOA grouping even with lower end ammunition. I was able to put 4 rounds of Black Hills 77gr SMK 5.56 in a 0.4" group at 100 yards from a bench rest. The fluting is extremely efficient at dissipating heat; the difference was hugely noticeable over the factory barrel. Pair all of this with the fact that Faxon has some of the best customer service in the industry and you can't go wrong.
