Faxon Duty Series 18" Gov't/Socom, 5.56 NATO, Rifle-Length, 4150 QPQ Nitride AR-15 Barrel

Great price for the barrel and solid performance during use.

I received an invitation to review this Faxon 18“ socom cut 5.56 qpq barrel a few days after purchase. I have not owned it long enough to review it's functionality yet. It appears to be top notch in production, fit ,and finish. The nitride coating is exquisite and the bore and rifling appears precise and sharp. The crown was polished and then finished with care. The chamber, m4 cuts, and lugs appear without blemish and there were no visible burs. Upon chambering a new cartridge I did observe the usual m4 ramp light scratches. It was a tight fit into an Aero FDE coated upper receiver and extremely light heat from a heat gun was applied to the receiver for fitment as expected. The barrel material is extremely hard and scratch resistant. The machine work is a delight to look at. The gas block fit perfectly to very close tolerances and the finish was extremely resistant to the dumpling jig drill bit. I have no doubt that the attention to detail observed thus far will transfer to its practical application. I do operate the 16“ version of this barrel and it has been flawless. I expect the 18“ to follow suit.

Bought this barrel as a cost effective, but still quality, mid-priced barrel, based upon multiple reviews from various sources and the fact it was available at time of purhase. Cons: First trial run of 30 rounds of 5.56 brass M193-had a failure to feed. Measured gas port was .086". Drilled port to .093" and had No failures with brass, but still did not have enough gas to feed lower powered wolf ammo. Drill port to .10". Pros: Was pretty inherently accurate using multiple types of 55gr and 62gr 5.56 as well as .223 ammo from different Mfr's. Even though was too low powered to feed wolf it still grouped quite Better than my expectations. Having done more research, my barrel was one of many with too small of diameter gas port issues. Gas port was measured using high grade Fowler micrometer. I am a professional diesel mechanic and my knowledge of precicion measuring instruments and their use is a daily requirement for me. **FAXON NOTE - The gas ports were expanded to .092" effective August of 2015. I bought this barrel , because of how excellent the quality was on the first barrel that I bought. Faxon makes the best barrel on the market. This is my second build and my friends are already asking where to buy all of their parts, Faxon will be hearing from them.

I have purchased barrels from other manufacturers before, none even come close to this quality. this barrel could easily sell for 100$ more and still be a value!!

Bought this barrel for a high end build. My first 18", rifle gas build. It has all the specs I look for when barrel shopping and at an affordable price, I was not disappointed. The fit and finish is of the highest quality. Zero in at 50 yards and rings a 4" gong all day long at 112 yards, that's as far as we can shoot at our home range. I know it will do a lot better with a better shooter than I am. Faxon will be my first choice for now on!!!

Haven't had the chance to shoot it yet but the fit and finish is perfect. Hard to beat price for such a nice barrel. I also bought the handguard which fits great and really looks amazing.
