Faxon's .308 continue our fantastic barrel-making with a bit more punch. Reach out and touch something.
Faxon Firearms barrels are the pinnacle of value. Manufactured 100% in-house from cradle-to-grave, these barrels are fully stress relieved, air-gauge tested, and 11 degree target crowned to ensure superior accuracy.
Quality is imbued into our barrels from the start. We start with the best materials, either certified 4150 Mil-Spec steel or 416-R Stainless. From there, each barrel goes through a battery of tests at each operation until finished in Nitride and final inspected. All barrels are individually checked for headspace by precision custom hardened gauges.
Faxon manufactures all our barrels in Cincinnati, Ohio under our ISO:9001 and AS:9100 quality certifications.
*Note - Faxon Firearms barrels are chambered to SAAMI specification .308 Winchester at a nominal headspace depth (passing "Go" and failing "No-Go"). This ensures maximum safety and accuracy.
7.62x51 NATO is not the same round as .308 Winchester, though it will fit within chamber. 7.62x51 technically requires deeper headspacing to meet the military specification and is known to function in Faxon .308 WIN barrels under most circumstances. However, due to the variation of components in the .308 AR world and variations between loadings, Faxon cannot guarantee or warrant function with 7.62x51, especially with bolts with tight ("match") .308 WIN headspacing.
It took me a while to decide which barrel I wanted and then couple of months to finish my build and head to the range. I went through the recommended break in procedure and I'm very pleased with the results. I shot sub MOA with 168 grain HPBT that was made locally. This is a really well made barrel with great attention to detail and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one. The overall fit and finish is exemplary and I'd certainly put this barrel up against barrels costing twice as much. Big thanks to the fine folks at Faxon for delivering such an amazing product at what is really a fair price. Capt. E.D. Barr on 27th Jan 2017
I purchased two of this to make a set of AR10s. I was able to make a SUB MOA group at 100y with it. I didn't even do an accuracy break in, I just took them to the range and started using them. The barrels look amazing and fire just as great. Anthony H on 22nd Nov 2016
This is going to be a long review: I traded for a used rifle and the seller told me it was a 'Faxon Match Grade Barrel'. I'm a fairly advanced shooter, and this rifle would not hold a group. I contacted Nathan at Faxon Customer Service and despite not being the original owner, I was told to send it in for a replacement. (Awesomeness #1) I sent in my barrel, and after about a week, I got a call from Nathan.....it was not a Faxon barrel. Since it wasn't their product, it's not their problem, but Nathan offered me a substantial discount on a new barrel. (Awesomeness #2)
My new barrel arrived just a few days later. Fit and finish is perfect--no blemishes of any kind. Fluting is clean, sharp and symmetrical. I know it's an HBAR, but it doesn't feel like it--the new barrel feels lighter than the old one. The crown is neatly finished--11 degree target crown and the muzzle threads are sharp, clean and concentric. No tight spots when I spun the muzzle device on. My YHM low profile gas block only has .002" of slop and it took a little patience to tap it into place without janking up the finish. And speaking of tight fit, the barrel extension was tighter than any I've ever used before. I had to put the barrel in the freezer and use a heat gun on the receiver. (For anyone wondering, this is a GOOD THING! Tight tolerances means nothing can flex under recoil)
The barrel nut timed up just under 50 ft/lbs (moly grease on the threads, torque/loosen/torque/loosen/final torque)--no shims or Hulk torque required. Bolt carrier slides home and locks up under it's own weight so I know my gas tube is lined up nicely. Dummy cartridges feed/eject properly without any of the scratches that the previous barrel left on the bullet.
I'm still developing a precision load for this barrel, but so far, I'm very pleased with my purchase. The customer service I have received has been nothing short of stellar--I will be recommending Faxon every chance I get.

The Faxon 308 heavy fluted barrel fits my PA-10 upper very snuggly. I love the way this barrel looks too! I haven't shot it yet, but I have no doubt that Faxon will live up to its reputation for quality. Highly recommend this barrel for your build! Unknown on 5th Mar 2016
Bought this for a friends build I was finishing for him, at the 11th hour he decides he wants a carbon fiber wrapped barrel.... Ok $1100 later in my hands is a Proof Research Barrel, finished his build and decided I needed to build myself a .308. What the hell I have a barrel all I need is the rest of the components.... Fast forward 2 months..... finished my build and met up at the range with Mr. Proof Research,,, Well after both guns had a 100 round break-in. (I won't go through my procedure because I am finicky when it comes to breaking in a barrel ) We sat down to shoot for some groups. Using Federal 168 SMK Gold Medal Match ammo the Proof barrel was able to wring out a smidge over 1/4 inch group. The Faxon barrel shot a 3/8 inch group. Both these are best 5 shot groups that day from each firearm. $300 = 3/8" $1100 for 1/4",,, Do ya think my friend is happy he spent the money ???? I know I am happy he went the other way and I wound up with another amazing barrel from Faxon. They have a customer for life... Gordon on 26th Feb 2016
